Biography:

What ever happened to the good old days before punk rock had succumbed to commercial exploitation and corporate record label idealism? You couldn't hear your favorite punk band on any popular radio station. You probably had to go out of your way to some specialty music store just to find their albums. It was unheard of that a punk band would make a video. And hey...if you wanted to see your favorite punk band live, you were more than likely forced to venture to the seedy parts of town (to some bar of questionable reputation) just to see them burn through a 20 minute live set behind a wall of chicken wire! You thought those days were gone...but then you didn't know about The Gunk U.K.! Springing forth from virtual obscurity (and staying there) in the mid 90's came the answer to the old school punk rock fan's fantasy. The Gunk U.K. blazed onto the underground scene to shun the establishment and take what was rightfully theirs: a good pint of ale at the pub for their sweaty performance!
After originally recording several singles which all seemed to have been lost to the great underground punk archive vault (don't bother trying to find them...we can't either), The Gunk U.K. recorded two proclaimed E.P.s - "Filthy World" (1999) and "Flush" (2000). These E.P.s were proclaimed by both Arthur Jag (band manager/producer) and Bubba (promoter/booking agent/executive negotiator of pub tabs) as prime examples of how The Gunk U.K. is a force which cannot be easily killed. The Gunk U.K. were proud of these initial Lo-Fi recordings which were both done in Granny Kurdlebaum's garage on Smidge's 4-Track. "If it can't be done in Granny's garage on the old 4-track, then what good is it?" (Smidge quote - '99). Smidge & the crew much later discovered the age of technology (& rumors were abound that Smidge's old 4-Track recorder had tragically met it's end)... but the band insists they remain true to their craft!
The Gunk U.K. (A.K.A. Smidge Kurdlebaum, Byron Duddle, and Seth Spewler) are back...and they're back to annoy! Experience their "Filthy World (e.p.) Tour" coming soon to a pub near you!.

Addendum: The Gunk U.K. have recently contributed to the "Miscreant Superstars e.p." (late 2011) with their buddies from local Chicago band Curmudgeon. Also longtime band friend and co-conspirator, Johnny Mohawk, was officially named as the unofficial "5th" member of the band (although we still are not sure who the 4th one is!)..cheers!
