Biography:

Sometimes playful, often poignant and always thoroughly entertaining, the singer/songwriter and producer Nigel Ray Beck has earned a reputation as an artist that knows how to capture the attention of an audience.
His songs cover every aspect of life and his storytelling between songs is always somewhere in between stand-up and deadly serious … depending on the song, the mood and the audience.
He is a prolific songwriter who, on average, writes a couple of songs a week.
He sometimes writes a set list before the show … but often deviates from it with spur-of-the-moment ideas or plays a song written at sound check.
He only plays a moderate amount of concerts each year, often preferring to spend time writing more songs, producing other people’s recordings in his studio or just spending quality-time with his dog, a guitar and a black coffee!
He was offered a record contract in the 90’s, which he turned down realizing that he needed to keep all rights to his songs and the way they were played. A very wise choice when you look at today’s music business!
Before moving to Denmark, where he now lives, he played the folk-clubs and military bases in the Midlands. When in England he is based in his hometown, Weymouth.
His latest CD “13 Four Minute Songs” was recorded at his studio The Red Room with two different bands, US Rails from Philadelphia and his European band The Low High Fives.
Out now!
You will find it on Amazon.UK, iTunes, Spotify and all the usual places.

“Henrik Carstens says …. “Through my years with jazz I’ve grown a deep appreciation for the role as a ‘sideman’ …. There’s nothing better than receiving a glimpse of a grateful smile from a singer or soloist when backing up, or the feeling you get while working towards an even better performance” “Getting to play Nigel’s unique songs and at the same time re-living a nearly thirty year old friendship gives a very special kick ‘on stage’ …. not least when Nigel turns to me on-stage and says “here’s another song that just came to mind …. you don’t know it, but just follow me …. goes like this …” – at such a moment creating music feels very much alive” ”
Henrik Carstens blog

“Nigel Ray Beck says …. “If I know exactly what will happen each time we play a concert …. then I’d probably lose interest and just run on cruise-control” “Faced with the option of doing the obvious thing or taking a chance … I never do obvious. A plan? … no way, burn the plan …. then you can feel the heat” “When Henrik’s upright bass kicks in on the first tone of the first song … then I’m sold, totally sold … I just get the feeling … it’s too late to stop now!” ”
