Robert Bobby (1951-2018) was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the suburb of Newtown Square. As a young teenager, his brother introduced him to the music of Bob Dylan and that was his doorway into his own musical adventure. In high school he often frequented The Main Point folk club, getting to hear people like Dave Van Ronk, Chris Smither, Tom Rush, Tim Buckley, Steve Goodman, Muddy Waters and many more.
After attending college at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA, Robert Bobby formed a rock and rhythm & blues band named The Speedboys which gained a widespread regional following. They released two (2) self produced albums which were critically acclaimed in publications like Rolling Stone, Musician Magazine, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Herald-Examiner & Philadelphia Inquirer.
Robert Bobby has been a staple of the Central Pennsylvania music scene for more decades than Tim McCarver played major league ball, and has been favorably reviewed by music critics in Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, Sing Out! and numerous other publications. He is known for his way with words, his passionate voice and his ability to connect with an audience.
Mrs. Bobby. Having learned to play the bass around the time her AARP membership arrived in the mail, Mrs. Bobby is an inspiration to anyone who has ever wished they could learn to play a musical instrument. The York PA native brings her vast knowledge of roots music and a joy that is evident in her performance with the Robert Bobby Duo and Sometimes Trio. Above all, she's Mrs. Bobby!
Together they are a perfect blend of singer/songwriter, folk, Americana & blues!
“From the moment he hit the stage, Bobby and his 2 counterparts were able to captivate the crowd by performing original, honest heartfelt tunes. A consummate professional — and one with a notorious sense of humor (as in the case of his tune “Naked on the Internet”) – Bobby’s tunes quickly spread throughout the audience and before you know it… the crowd is laughing, engaged…. and in the palm of Bobby’s hand...
