Artist Bio
The Nashville metalcore band Mindset Defect has been taking the southeast by storm, sharing the stage with Helmet, Straight Line Stitch, Diecast, Almost Kings, Intronaut and Ekotren. Since their conception in 2005 Mindset Defect has worked diligently to bring something different to metal fans. Their music stands apart with their innovative use of melodic vocals, dueling guitars, heavy rhythms and lyrics that can be both brooding and uplifting. Combined with an electrifying live show Mindset Defect shatters the dark image of the traditional metal band.
Unlike most bands Mindset Defect's five musicians equally participate in all aspects. Everyone in the band has a part in writing music, lyrics, riffs and arrangements. Each bar of music the members write are extensions of their personality and are seamlessly woven into every song. Song-crafting is something they take seriously drawing from the great bands of past and present. Their friendship and dedication to each other and the independent rock scene is unmatched. They are often times called the hardest working band in Nashville supporting worthwhile causes and fellow up-and-coming bands.
"Crisis Reborn" their demo CD garnered them airplay on Nashville's number one rock station WBUZ during The Local Buzz and afternoon drive time. Their single "Tragedy", regularly requested by fans, earned them a nomination for Best Hard Rock/Metal Act for the 2006 Local Buzz Rock Awards.
In 2007 they followed the success of "Tragedy" with "Paint the Sky", the first single from their EP "Device". Wanting to take the band to the next level, Mindset Defect packed up their bags and headed to Harrisburg, PA to showcase their talent at the Millennium Music Conference. At the conference their professionalism and powerful performance solidified them as the band to keep in eye on in the future. They ended the year as the 9th most request band on the Local Buzz and earned two nominations for Best Hard Rock/Metal Act and Best Guitarist from the 2007 Local Buzz Rock Awards.
Mindset Defect continued to build moment in 2008. Their single "Device" was discovered online and chosen to appear on the November/December issue of Metal Edge Magazine's compilation CD; An achievement proving that they were making waves in the metal community nationwide. As the year came to a close Mindset Defect was the 4th most requested band and earned an expansive number of nominations for the 2009 Local Buzz Rock Awards. Of their six nominations they walked away with Best Guitarist, Best Drummer and the prestigious Band of the Year. In April of 2011 Mindset Defect brought home Three awards from the Music City Mayhem awards for Best Metal Drummer, Band of the Year and Comeback of the year. As 2011 came to a close, the Music City Mayhem awards announced five nominations for Mindset Defect. In March 2012 they will once again be competing for awards for "best live metal band", "Metal Drummer of the year", "Metal Guitarist of the year", "Metal band of the year" and "the Peoples choice award". Mindset Defect has been a featured artist on www.freedomtorock.org and artist of the week at Rusty Cooley's Guitar Asylum website.
"Device" the self produced and recorded E.P. from Mindset Defect is touted as their best effort to date. With growing support from radio, media and fans Mindset Defect is prepared to take each town by storm proving that melodic metal is still alive and breaking new ground!
After months of regional touring Mindset Defect returned to Nashville to participate in the Project Independent.net music showcase. After a powerful performance they received top marks from the judges and were pushed through to the online voting rounds to become the 2012 Project Independent touring act. After competing against 170 bands nationally through three rounds of voting, Mindset Defect emerged as the 8th most voted band for the final round, accruing over 24,000 total votes.
The bar has been set high, but 2012 will bring a brand new CD featuring new vocalist Jason Carroll. The melodic influence Jason brings to Mindset Defect has propelled the band to a new level of diversity and energy. Jason's style is unique as he pushes to transcend rock and metal cliche's and breath new life into Mindset's constantly evolving style.
