The six-piece funky reggae collective spread an energy mixed with positivity and relaxation. Based out of Boca Raton, Florida, they're known for throwing down high-energy funk and chill reggae, and there's a genuine love that fills a room when the guys do their thing. Steve Voronkov makes the guitar look effortless, as fancy fingerwork bleeds a graduated sound that an oldschool classic rock enthusiast would appreciate. Adam Moskowitz delivers a palpable stage presence standing 6'2" but somehow encompassing the entire stage, and stays rocking out with his deep, sexy bass lines. Joey Bitton sets the pace on drums, beats ranging from midtempo to up-beat, making sure things always feel right. Diego Godoy provides the 'reggae bubble' on the keys. Rounding out the band are Carl Dykes on Saxophone/Guitar/Vocals and Alexander Coombs on Trumpet/Guitar/Vocals. Together, the sextet offers up a playful show that welcomes anyone to dance the night away or just sway to the ocean breeze. Their playlist is a mix of beach jams, roots reggae and funky originals. “Named: #6 on TheDubSide Top 10 Albums of 2011!”
TDS - TheDubSide
“In early 2011 a three-piece reggae band from South Florida released their debut album. Bushwood encompasses what it feels like to be near the water with the sun on your face. Fun times, good vibes and of course great music. We haven’t heard the last from Bushwood.”
TDS - TheDubSide
“Florida based Bushwood released their debut self-titled album in 2011. An album that found its way on to TheDubSide Top Ten Albums of 2011 – and catapulted Bushwood to instant notoriety. The group recently played with Spred the Dub and the well-known Badfish: Sublime Tribute at South Florida’s Revolution Live – an extremely respected and popular local music venue.”
TDS - TheDubSide
“The album improved song after song, closing with "Flomanja," a five-minute instrumental jam that goes from a bouncing, bubbly intro to a scorching guitar meltdown.”
Dan Sweeney - Sun-Sentinel
“With reggae, rock, and funk so seamlessly intertwined, Bushwood’s debut album leaves high expectations for the future. It shows that each member of the band is full of talent and it presents a niche sound for these Fort Lauderdale boys. Having already written some very catchy tunes, I look forward to watching Bushwood’s bright future unfold.”
Nathan Zucker - Reggae And Rock
“Bushwood kicks the energy back up and close out the album with their lighthearted funky reggae instrumental “Flomanja,” which captures every style that they play. It starts off with a bouncy reggae beat that merges into funk flawlessly, slows down with some groovin’ reggae chords, and finishes off with rock n‘ roll solos and drums.”
Nathan Zucker - Reggae And Rock
“Hailing from Fort Lauderdale Florida, Bushwood is an up-and-coming band that mixes traditional reggae vibes with their own funk and rock style. Guitarist and vocalist Steve Voronkov, bassist and vocalist Adam Moskowitz, and drummer Jon Cross released their self-titled debut album, Bushwood, in April of 2011. This album displays the band’s originality, blending reggae, funk, and rock into one cohesive style.”
Nathan Zucker - Reggae And Rock
“The 10 song CD touches on a range of genres that the band has skillfully and soulfully blended to create their signature sound. Reggae, funk, classic and southern rock influences are cleverly woven together to create a delightful sound that reflects the tropical and carefree South Florida environment. The album is available on iTunes, CD Baby and Bandcamp. Lovers of the reggae/rock sound are sure to enjoy this well crafted record.”
Gerald Belnavis - Examiner.com
“Fort Lauderdale based Bushwood band has been steadily making its mark on the South Florida music scene. The reggae rock trio has created a unique sound that weaves hypnotic reggae grooves tinged with funk and rock influences. Adam Moskowitz (bass/background vocals), Steve Voronkov (guitar/lead vocals) and Jon Cross (drums and percussion) have created a sound that reflects the laid back/party vibes of their South Florida home. Heavy bass lines over a funky reggae beat laced with bluesy guitar solos compel the listener to get up and dance.”
Gerald Belnavis - Examiner.com
“Steve Voronkov (guitar/lead vocals), Adam Moskowitz (bass/backup vocals) and Jon Cross (drums and percussion) produced a light and fresh soundtrack complementary to the tropical climate. Instrumental artistry shines through on the self-titled album's first track, "Red & White," featuring Voronkov's soft vocals contrasted by his passionate electric axe-shredding. Moskowitz's timed bass vibrations add depth to the foundation when paired with Cross' simplicity in the form of dub beats. Funked out island jam favorites like "Flomanja" and more introspective tracks like "Open Up Your Eyes," an intimate breakup ballad, are easy definitions of what Bushwood music is all about.”
Tracy Block - Country Grind, Broward Palm Beach
“Bushwood is back in high gear with a brand new studio album. The self-titled work features ten wonderfully produced original tunes that draw from the undeniable beach-party vibe Miami is known for worldwide. Objectively speaking, the album is of a similar vein to Sublime or Slightly Stoopid, though it sits on another end of the reggae/rock spectrum with it’s funkier feels on tunes like “Flomanja,” or more radio-friendly sound on tunes like “Drop The Anchor.” Bushwood is best known for being a live band. Get yourself over to a show and dig your toes into the sands of their sound.”
Chris Lazaga - Great Music Never Stops
“It’s damn near impossible to listen to this band and not have a smile on your face, a beer in one hand, and a doobie in the other… This solid 10-track record is the perfect soundtrack for you lazy beach bums to pop in and just simply let ride from start to finish. Even if you’re regrettably confined somewhere in the concrete jungle, these feel-good tunes will convince you that you’re far from the city with your feet in the sand.”
Derick Fortin - LA Music Blog
