Karl released the solo album Saurian Meditation in 2004, which is in marked contrast to the Nile project. While still heavily leaning to middle eastern influenced music, this album is a dark ambient piece of work, using traditional instrumentation along side atmospheric sound effects, and distant guitar sounds.
Karl followed up Saurian Meditation with the eclectic and hypnotic album Saurian Exorcisms in 2009.
