Lagana went on to get a Masters in Music at Towson University where he was awarded second prize in the Sidney Lieberman Competition, the first guitarist ever to place in that competition. His analysis of the work of Pat Metheny was published by Just Jazz Guitar magazine and endorsed by Metheny himself. Lagana has participated in master classes with Ralph Towner, Dusan Bogdanovic, The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Roland Dyens, and the Brazilian Guitar Quartet. He was a guest artist at the First World Guitar Congress and was invited to play for guitarist/composer Carlo Domeniconi at the Long Island Guitar Festival. Lagana was featured with the National Symphony Orchestra in David Del Tredici’s work Final Alice and appeared again with the NSO and Eric Idle of the Monty Python troupe. Press:

"Favoring a clean, dry guitar tone, Lagana’s fluid and imaginative approach puts ideas before pyrotechnics."
Tom Greenland - All About Jazz - NYC

"Schematic is the album to make guitar aficionados and the jazz world in general to sit up and take notice of a talent deserving wider recognition."
Bill Milkowski - author and jazz critic

"Schematic" is, after all, very much a collaborative achievement. For all the winning finesse and venturesome spirit displayed by Lagana on this 11-track release, there are moments when Garzone and Ballou make the performances soulfully resonate and when the core rhythm section's sleek propulsion is particularly compelling
Mike Joyce - Washington Post

“Maryland-based guitarist Tom Lagana isn't nearly as well-known as he should be, not even in jazz circles, but that won't be the case for long if he continues to record albums as enjoyable and multifaceted as "Schematic."”
Mike Joyce - Washington Post

“‘Interesting compositions, thoughtful interaction and great musicianship. A nice addition to anyone’s CD library’”
Hans Glawischnig - bassist

““Schematic is a great record. Tom’s writing is deep and thoughtful. Beautiful improvising on both electric and nylon string guitar as well. I especially enjoyed how the group organically interacts together. Great work by everyone. The album is also recorded very well with a nice sound.””
Corey Christiansen - guitarist

““Tom is a great guitarist and I dig his modern approach to the jazz guitar sound.””
Dave Stryker - guitarist

““The music of Tom Lagana is fresh and exciting in a time when music seems to be running at a simmering pace..I think that you should all check out this cd…you will really enjoy the way that I do.””
George Garzone - tenor sax
