The band, which originally formed in Miami circa 1999, combines obvious post-punk and new wave influences with a feel for ambiance that enriches their overall sound by providing a rich textural foundation -- and just the right amount of space. These latter two elements set them apart from the typical post-punk outfit, and earned them a “Best Band 2009” nomination from the local music scene website Queen of the Scene (queenofthescene.com). Also on the bill is local electro-rock duo the Nothing Left, featuring knife-in-heart, grungy vocals coming at the listener, and backed by an angry keyboard and guitar attack. The other opener Inasmuch will warm up with a slightly brighter variety of the dark-by-nature, '80s-inspired post-punk music.”

“Daysleeper was up next, and the moment they started playing, their Joy Division influences were made extremely apparent. The vocals sounded akin to what Ian Curtis' offspring might sing like if he'd had a boy in the '80s, but the keyboard and synths almost overpowered the baritone lead vocalist. The group has modernized the Joy Division sound, and it was an interesting glimpse into what Curtis might have sounded like in 2010. The amps and sound system were a bit off, but that seemed to be more the fault of the sound engineer and less the band's. Either way, the crowd was entranced as they swayed and swooned within Churchill's vibrating walls, and their last song was definitely their most powerful.”
