Biography:

EVELYNN ROSE is a booze-rock band from Charlotte NC. The group started when singer/songwriter Joseph met Joshua. They began working together in order to produce an album that would successfully blend each others musical backgrounds. In August of 2008, they met Chris Black-a guitarist from PA. He found immediate interest in the group and began attending every session. Within a week, he was pronounced the groups’ guitarist. In September, Jimmy Jack moved to Charlotte from NY after hearing the group practice in August. He sat in on one session, in 2 weeks he moved to become part of the band. Evelynn Rose recently opened for Cowboy Mouth to a crowd of 500. They are currently booked to be featured at Time Warner Cable Arena for 5,000 plus.

Press:

“Don't be fooled by the name. Charlotte-based rock outfit Evelynn Rose is not a sweet, old lady or a cheap box wine. No, this Southern rock quartet is much darker than those first impressions could assume. The band melds several styles to create one that seems to drift from one comparison to another depending on the listener and the song itself. At times, Evelynn Rose sounds as soulful and as pained as Ray Lamontagne fronting a Skynyrd tribute band. Then, on a song like "Everyone Knows", the band combines dual guitar riffs, plenty of distortion and angry gang vocals to create a whiskey-fueled punk-a-billy sound that quickly thunders into metal-inspired guitar solos. Throughout the band's debut EP, one can smell the grease and exhaust of powerful, American steel roaring into overdrive and taste the whiskey burning in the back of the metaphorical throat of good Southern rock 'n' roll.”

“Encountering the band Evelynn Rose might present a dichotomy to those unfamiliar with this group. By the name, you might be expecting a fancy, perhaps slightly old-fashioned or whimsical female-fronted or all-girl group. Guess again. The feisty foursome are actually brazen rockers hellbent on heavy-handed Southern guitar-driven "boozen" blues. Evelynn Rose plays rock with an edge plus a glancing blow of Americana but mostly downright hard and heavy meets bluesy for that sort of sound that'll play tricks on your mind. There's more than a welcome bit of Black Crowes here, maybe some Avett Brothers added to an update of an Allman and Skynyrd stance, but vocally there's more than a dash of Danzig crossed with The Cult. What we have here is spirited, temperamental, moody magic in music, and surely more rock revelations from Evelynn Rose.”
Debby Jet - Herald Online

"A Southern rock band from Charlotte that sounds like a twangier version of the Black Crowes. “Southern State of Mind” is a stirring Southern rock power anthem, while “Whiskey Woman” and “Betty Ford” are lovely, guitar-driven ballads."
John Staton - Cape Fear Music

"Debut seven song EP from this band of transplanted Southern rockers. Vocalist Joseph William leads the band through a set of country waltzes, Southern boogie and moody, alternative pieces, all punctuated with his likable, gruff delivery and “shoot from the hip” lyrical observations. Standouts include the slightly off-color wit of “White Trash Queen”, the slow waltz of “Whiskey Woman” and the song that has become wildly popular at Charlotte Checkers (hockey) home games “Southern State of Mind” with its heartfelt, true-story of Southbound migration."
Rob Tavaglione - Catalyst Recording

"A product of Charlotte's famed NoDa district, Evelynn Rose is a band whose roots are firmly planted below the Mason-Dixon line. The Charlotte Observer describes Evelynn Rose as, "A rootsy Southern rock quartet with raspy vocals, a bluesy underbelly reminiscent of Black Crowes, and gritty lyrics that conjure images of smoky bars, cheap hotels and wide-open landscapes."
The Charlotte Observer

"I am deployed to Southwest Asia and just saw Evelynn Rose perform at my base. THANK YOU so much for sending them to us! They are amazing performers as well as ‘salt-of-the-Earth’ people. It was such an uplifting few hours being able to feel like we were not where we actually are, like we were back in the states. They gave an incredible show and were so glad to be here and appreciative of what we do, and we were so truly thankful that they came out to be here with us; we actually got to talk to one of the band members in the smoking area and it was refreshing to converse with him and feel like we were home again; that’s a big deal for us here. Thanks for booking groups like Evelynn Rose! We’d love to see them again! What you all do for us service members is truly appreciated! Thank-you!"
Amanda Mocanu, SSgt - USAF

"Southern Rock played the way it should be; outrageous and outstanding from the off. This six track album cannot be recommended any higher. Despite its minimal track listing, such a sound is created that it simply blows you off your seat. The commonly held thought is that with the release of an EP comes a full-length album. I’m sure many out there who listen to this record will certainly cross their fingers as any further releases which are as good as this will be simply amazing."
Russell Hill - Maverick Magazine

““The band's album is due to hit the streets on Feb. 15. They've got an edge to their rock style that adds a hint of country. At moments they reminded me of the Black Crowes, but the singer is closer to Seven Mary Three. Get that list out of 'who to watch' and add them to it."”
Jeff Hahne - Creative Loafing
