Brooklyn Nights, new album of Roberto Poveda, is out since August 2012!
The Cuban singer, Roberto Poveda, returns with the album “Brooklyn Nights”, an eleven songs performance that shows his classic laid-back vocal style and his ability to write lyrics about life and love. This time, Poveda experiments with new melodies: bolero feeling, rock, jazz, creating a bluesy – bolero style infused by funky rhythmic and romantic lyrics.
In addition, the physical CD will include a twelfth track, Poveda’s version of “Hallelujah” of Leonard Cohen. The new album was recorded live at Acoustic Recordings studio, near Prospect Park in Brooklyn with Fima Ephron as musical producer and recorded and mixed by Michael Brorby.
The members of the band were Roberto Poveda (acoustic guitar & vocals), Fima Ephron (bass & arrangements), John Pondel (electric guitar) Jaime Affoumado (drums) Mauricio Herrera (congas, bata drums) and Vicente Sanchez (congas).
The album was produced by Point of View Productions and Son Elctrico Music, with Cuban-American filmmaker, Emilio Oscar Alcalde as Executive Producer and is now available digitally at CDBaby & iTunes.
The cover art was designed exclusively by artist, Arturo Cuenca.
“Cuban - born singer-songwriter Roberto Poveda is an exceptional talent who has flown beneath the radar of the Latin music scene...Poveda's seductive tenor fluctuates between strength and vulnerability, husky blues longing and hipswinging son sensuality.”
Daniza Tobar - Ocean Drive
“Like the aroma of a cigar in a bar of Old Havana, with a taste of blues & son, memories of the Nueva Trova and whispers a-la-Chico Buarque, Roberto Poveda gives us this precious music box as a gift.”
Diana Molina - People en Español
“Roberto Poveda, whose electric guitar and voice were all he needed for volatile syncopations”
Jon Pareles - New York Times
"The Miami-based Cuban's work could well be called Son Ecléctico as it offers a smooth combination of son, bolero, rumba, timba, jazz, R&B, and rap.
Julienne Gage - New Times
“During an interview at El Hueco a few days after the feast of Babalu Aye, Poveda tells how he came to Miami three years ago from Colombia, where he had lived since leaving his native Havana in 1989.”
Celeste F. Delgado - New Times
