The melodic rock outfit Auto Defiance cut its teeth in Nashville; infiltrating the country music epicenter with a seductive mix of alternative rock, indie pop and modern rock. The five-piece band is headed by lead singer/songwriter Bradley Boyer, who after a stint jumping from high-flying aircraft in the 101st Airborne, decided to morph his musical prowess into one of Nashville’s most beloved rock acts.
Auto Defiance first broke ground in summer ’08, and quickly developed a knack for passionate songwriting with big, atmospheric guitars, sweeping choruses, and evocative lyrics. The band’s influences are apparent, but not overt, with hints of The Cure and early U2.
After the band’s early single “The Ghost Inside Your House” picked up a Billboard World Songwriter Award, and placed in Nashville's 48 hr. film festival, Auto Defiance continued its success with touring, playing over 80 dates in 2012, prestigious gigs at SXSW, and at a number of East Nashville Tomato Art Festivals, art galleries, venues and pubs. The band enhances the moodiness of the songs by performing with vintage film footage flickering larger than life on stage.
Creating enchanting music without boundaries, Auto Defiance playfully blurs the lines between indie pop and post punk. Their live performance is all about telling stories through songs sung by both male and female.
Critics have described Auto Defiance unique sound as, “Sonic gold. A mix between tributes to the 90’s and the neo-Velvet Underground sub-culture present in today’s indie rock music” (Indaba)
“they are attempting to cross new borders and explore new frontiers by mixing vintage film clips with their carefully calculated, atmospheric pop-rock during their live shows and beyond. And it appears they are succeeding. (No Country for New Nashville).
and a “Tight alternative band with great lyrics and a lush, ethereal rock sound” (Music City Circus).
"From East Nashville's art deco district, the melodic rock quintet sounds more post-Velvet Underground, more post-Guided by Voices, more post-Collective Soul than, say, The Band Perry. Or whatever." (Mountain Xpress, Asheville)
Auto Defiance just release its new single, "Heart Attack" The song, which deals with the excesses of Hollywood and materialism, is lush and expansive. It recalls glittery dance floors and late-night drives. It's all atmosphere and lustrous guitars. Lead singer Bradley Boyer has the sort of voice that echoes and rings, his tone both brooding and warm."
Jan. 15, 2013 Auto Defiance released their debut first full-length LP. (Independent and Ditto Music (UK).
The album is comprised of twelve originals, guest artist Asheira, and a classic cover song that nods to several new wave influences.
After the release, the band plans to continue to tour, new music videos, and take their diverse layered sound rock across the Atlantic to audiences in Europe—never shying away from the opportunity to cross borders and explore new frontiers.
“There are much evocation in their music, something perfect to let go and lose yourself among those warm striking chords of their guitars. A truly powerful, melancholic sound.”

"Driven by an excellent guitar sound, this track will delight your ears. The bass and drums sound amazing resembling a starry night. The singer’s voice is drench in passion. The structure is well put. The chorus is enchanting and very catchy....."

"Describing the sound as Indie Rock meets Post Punk (which they do) vastly undersells this band. What I like about them is the rich sonic textures that grace their songs."
