Biography:

Wubakia contact email: Wubakia@gmail.com

Succinctly defined as the inverse of deja-vu, this progressive jam band's name conveys the spirit of their shows.  We're doing something familiar ~ playing songs we've played many times before, hitting the dancefloor like we have so many nights in the past, and suddenly, springing from the creative depths of the moment, the mundane reveals its inherent profundity, and the experience is completely fresh and new.

Fans who've witnessed this energetic quartet's flexible range of abilities and willingness to tread into new territory will attest that this group lives up to its name.  These players bring to the stage a passion for performance, improvisation and experimentation, a diverse set of influences, the technical prowess needed to execute a widely varied catalog of complex songs, and, of course, a Hammond organ!  There are smatterings of rock, folk, funk, blues, jazz, prog, electronic, bluegrass, and ???  Lyrically, their songs range from esoterically profound to downright silly.  It all culminates in a live experience that's constantly pushing new ground.  What can be counted on at every Wubakia show is a lot of stokedness streaming at you from the stage, some damn fine musicianship, and a strong urge to dance.

Wubakia has been thriving underground for 5 years as one of Santa Cruz's few true original jam bands. Now, they're actively stretching out into more locales and enshrining 9 of their epic, multi-sectioned songs in their first full-length studio album. "Backdoor", "Looks Like Rain", and "Trip Around the Sun" are posted on this profile in nearly-finished form. Check them out, and stay tuned for the full album release in 2012. And if you know what's good for you, don't miss the chance to see them live!!!
