Biography:

Sentinel is an Indie-dream-pop duo from California, now based in Austin, Texas. The seeds of this sunny-seaside-dream-pop began between Tarabud (vocals/bass), Dennis Bestafka (guitars), on a four track recorder. They have had various drummers over the years to support their live performances.

Sentinel's sound comes from their mutual visions of 80's synth and 90's dream pop. Bands like Cocteau Twins, Smiths, U2, My Bloody Valentine, Cure, Flock Of Seagulls. and Ocean Blue have provided consistent inspiration, creating a long catalog of moods & textures to draw from while developing their sound. Their catalog has been expansive with variety. The following five albums and several singles were self-released: Sentinel (self titled) - 2004; The Singles - 2005; Sequels & Hunches E.P. - 2007; Kites Without Strings - 2008; For Days Deep & single video- 2010; Jet Black Single & video - 2010; Dark End Single- 2011; Somewhere Else Single ~ video & dance remix - 2012; Points of Light album - 2015, Life Goals Single - 8/2020.

Sentinel has had extensive support from local DJ's playing them over the airwaves to Bay Area listeners. They were played on Live105.3 FM, KALX 90.7 FM, & KZSU 90.1 FM, and performed live-in-studio performances. Also, their single Dark End was featured by Nic Harcourt's syndicated program 'Connections Made by Guitar Center' broadcast nationally on FM stations in the USA. gc.guitarcenter.com/connections. Sentinel's album Points Of Light has been played on over 160 college Radio stations in the USA and Canada

Press:

“The Californian trio Sentinel, is one of those rare and elegant cases where they know exactly how to get the perfect indie dream pop "Points of Light"”
TBTCI - The Blog That Celebrates...

“Points of Light, dropped this June & the album boasts songs that are a little more popularly accessible than, although not entirely dissimilar to, Dead Can Dance and Ride, who are admitted and obvious influences (They also cite The Police, Coldplay, and The Arcade Fire as influences… which would seem to bridge that gap.) The album itself actually resembles a dreamier, more ethereal, and more subdued take on the aesthetic of the first two Garbage records.”
Izzy Cihak - PHILTHY MAG

“Sentinel with their dreamy easy listening brand of #IndiePop a great way to start the weekend. #Unsigned http://sentineldream.bandcamp.com/”
Music Metropolis - Music Metropolis

“The cosmic sound waves carry you through this album. This isn’t necessarily about getting a message across, but the Dream Pop band is more about pleasing listeners aesthetically. Dennis Bestafka’s synthed-out guitar along with the feather touch of Bill Mowery on the drums blends perfectly with Tarabud’s vocals.”
JOSEPH BODENBACH - Jailhouse Media

“Sentinel keeps the mind actively dreaming across a number of exceptional tracks, with the rock solid instrumentation from Dennis and Billy and the lovely vocals of singer Tarabud helping tie it all together. Some of our favorites include the inspiring pop song, “Wonder Reeling”, a native american inspired wonder, “Yahmanee”, the Freddy Jones-esque daydreaming riffs behind “Shiloh Sky”, with a special nod toward a blanket of stars dreamt up in our minds eye listening to the guitar-work on “Voices Say”.”
Charles Stepczyk - Insomnia Radio

“Based out of San Francisco, dream pop trio Sentinel have released their fifth, independent LP Points of Light this week. With polished and chromatic textures, and dreamy vocals, the band has also shared the featured track from the album “The Innocence”.”
Kane Wilkinson - Dusty Organ Music

"Creating a beautiful and effervescent take on dream pop inspired by the legendary forebears of U2, My Bloody Valentine, and The Smiths, this band, active since 2000, have numerous albums and singles to their credit. Utilizing a lovestruck New Romantic aesthetic that hasn’t been in vogue since the glory days of MTV combined with the icily beautiful songwriting and vocals of its lead singer, it’s a treat for those who think 120 Minutes isn’t enough."
Alberto Santillan - OwlMag.com

“Sentinel in the Top 20 bands of Bay Area!”
LIVE105

“Sentinel, a dream-pop band from Oakland has returned with another very solid effort on their May 2008 release, “Kites Without Strings”. Avalanche is the second track off their new CD, a beautiful and ethereal pop-driven snapshot portraying jumping into the quick moving avalanche of newfound love”
Stuart Morrison - Daily Dose- Insomnia Radio

“I’ve already enjoyed several listens and viewings and can’t get enough of how the instrumentals really smash through at the end during mystic hour on the beach w/ the elemental trio engaged in some sort of ceremony well into the moonlit night.”
Charles Stepczyk - Insomnia Radio

“Sentinel are back again. Kites Without Strings is a fairly short album (8 tracks) but its packing a punch. They seem far bolder than ever before – rocking up the rock aspect of their act as well as the vocals being as dreamy as ever.”
Steven Hurst - Glasswerk United Kingdom

"Kites Without Strings" erupts like one long, happy wall of sound. Most of the songs on the album employ a similar upbeat pop vibe, creating a cohesive quality
