L BOOGy aka Da Boogieman was born Jan.21, 1987 in Berkeley, California. He bounced around the Bay Area a lot in his earlier childhood and eventually grew up in Oakland. He was raised by two immigrant parents who migrated from Somalia to escape the civil war. This upbringing shaped L BOOGy into a tough but conscious kid growing up. He developed a deep rooted passion for music early on in Life and took a liking to Hip Hop. It was his escape from all that went on around him and he found peace in music.
By the time L BOOGy, real name Leban Elmi, was 15 years old he started writing lyrics to songs not really knowing whether or not he’d ever get a chance to record any of them in a studio setting. He got plenty of no’s from studio owners and received a lot of scrutiny for his efforts. His lack of experience when it came to recording and making music was his downfall and he took notice immediately. Not too long after, around his 16th Birthday, L BOOGy decided to take matters into his own hands and purchase the equipment necessary to record music. He downloaded free software to record on his PC and a cheap microphone from EBay. It was definitely a makeshift studio but it gave him everything he needed to grow as an artist before he entered a professional studio again. He then created his CA$H CUZN Ent. imprint to solidify his movement and brand himself as an artist.
Years went by and L BOOGy slowly but surely completed hundreds of songs and put out several mixtapes in order to cultivate his talent, promote his music, and brand himself. He was always aware of what it took to make it in the music business but the finances all went to making the product and none really went into marketing as it should have. He knew he had to re-strategize his game plan and so he did.
In late 2009 he worked his way up and built a network with local up and coming artists in the Bay Area and was given a few opportunities to open up for the likes of Mistah FAB, E-40, San Quinn, just to name a few. The shows were held at local venues in the Bay Area that ranged from the Moose Lodge in Oakland to the nightclub Karribean City in Downtown.
He is fully devoted to his craft and recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sound Arts. He took the next step and became his own full-fledged certified recording engineer. He felt that no one could handle the job of being his engineer because they couldn’t duplicate the sound he was going for so he took matters into his own hands.
He is currently working on his debut album entitled “The Cure”. He has been working on this debut for years, making sure every aspect of it meets his standards quality wise. He knows that the product he makes musically must be perfect before releasing and marketing it. His hit single “Drop It Low” ft. Makin has gotten plenty of buzz and it steadily building a grassroots fan base for this young artist. Over the years he has released music that doesn’t necessarily sound like it comes from the Bay Area; it has its own distinct sound which separates L BOOGy from the average rapper coming out of that region. The future is bright for this young man, because he knows what he wants and he stops at nothing to achieve his goals.
