Biography:

KARIN WRIGHT «YOU GOT THE SILVER»
Karin Wright's fourth album is strictly back to the basics, after a couple of country rock albums is her last production stripped down to pure ole country & bluegrass! The album is produced by Don Wayne Reno and Dale Reno.

The songs are picked to suit Karin perfectly and it sounds like it was recorded in the ole days, simple and true. The oldest tune on the album is "Salty Dog", first time it was recorded was back in 1924 with Papa Charlie Jackson for Paramount & Broadway. "Jealous Heart" by Jenny Lou Carson are from 1944. Several songs have the goodtime country feel to them such as The Rolling Stones song "You Got The Silver", like it was done in the fifties and sixties. Among the old songs are three self-made songs: "Like A Fading Rose" and "Sandy" is written by Karin and her longtime friend Johanna Demker and Mitch Harrell. "True Believers" is collaboration with Nikolai Grasaasen and the Norwegian Grammy award winner for 2013 in the country genre Bendik Brænne.

On this album she has joined forces with The Reno & Harrell Band:
Don Wayne Reno: Banjo/guitar
Dale Reno: Mandolin
Mitch Harrell: Guitar/harmony vocals
Robbie Wells: Fiddle/harmony vocals
Ron Spears: Upright Bass/harmony vocals

Steve Wilson on the dobro, Dale went to see his old time friend Steve in the music store he works in and to ask him to play on the album. Steve who has declined studio work for fifteen years finally said yes to play! We sat down in the control room and when Steve started playing on his dobro we had goosebumps all together! It was an absolutely amazing moment and it just sounded so beautiful.

"You Got The Silver" was recorded in one week in the heart of Virginia, right outside the city Roanoke. The album was recorded live, simple, melodic and with beautiful harmonies. The producers Don Wayne Reno and Dale Reno fell in the bluegrass pot as kids, their father Don Reno has played with old time legends such as Bill Monroe and had success with Reno & Smiley in the sixties. He is widely known for the song "Dueling Banjos" and The Reno & Smiley song "I'm Long Gone" is on the soundtrack to the movie " Oh Brother Where Art Thou".

In the beginning of the year 2000 Don Wayne and Dale joined the rockgrass band Hayseed Dixie who traveled Europe with great success for many years. In 2012 they decided to go back to where they came from, to the music that they were bred on: true bluegrass!

The chosen few who have had a sneak peak to "You Got The Silver" got associations to Rose Maddox and Patsy Cline. We are just fine with that! ;) Going back in time, recording songs like they did way back then has given this album a wonderful country feeling that suits Karin perfectly! Just as she wished for!
The album will be released October the 17th 2014!

Press:

“Norwegian country singer, Karin Wright, is a living example of the reality that music knows no boundaries in language, culture, country or genre. Her recent release, You Got the Silver, is a hybrid of country-western and bluegrass that runs with rock streams energizing this collection of pure American music. Her earlier albums (2009’s Hunting a Dream and 2011’s Too Rock’n Roll For Country) demonstrate Wright to be a formidable alt-country-roots artist with a deep understanding of the soul of the song. Her second album, Too Country for Rock ’n Roll, speaks volumes just in the title. As it suggests, she moves boldly through the fine line between a variety if genres without compromising any of her stylistic recreations, which include rockabilly, alt-rock, rock ballads, country and bluegrass. Her country influence is detectable on all of her albums, but nowhere do her credentials and talents shine so brightly as on You Got the Silver.”
Terry Paul Roland - No Depression

“This year there's been several brilliant Norwegian acts that sound like they come from various parts of that land, and this is one of those. I guess the word we're looking for is "authentic". Or how about "heartfelt"? "Real" and "true" are two more of my favorites. Karin Wright knows that you gotta have a fiddler in the band (and a mandolin player too!), and her country songs are mostly of the broken hearted kind, which always was the best kind anyway. Her voice gives you just the slightest hint that at least a few of these songs are based on experience, but whatever bad has happened in her love life ended up as songs to lift our spirits, so hey, lost some, won some I guess? This is an album I would recommend to all lovers of the genre any day, so to me "You Got the Silver" is pure gold.”
Espen Nørvåg Slapgaard - http://slappedfortheveryfirsttime.blogspot.no/

“I must say when I saw that I would be listening to a country/rock and roll singer from Norway, I had my guards up. How good is this going to sound? A country singer from Norway? The first song blew me away!' Too Rock and Roll for Country' is my favorite, hands down! Who says you can't hear awesome country music in Oslo? Not I. not I. Music is borderless and limitless. That is what I love the most about it. I was all in from the first track and couldn’t wait to hear more. Her vocals are piercingly strong, sultry and most of all dynamic. I love her vocal performance the most on 'Dancing in My Mind'. Karin can be a powerhouse when need be, then soft and sweet. She dips to the bottom and back up to her higher register effortlessly. Needless to say, this album excites me! I love her blend of country and rock - two of my favorite genres. Her vocal tone is simply wondererful. ”

Jan Eiesland - No Deal Blogspot

Too Rock'n'Roll for Country... Däribland titelspåret, Too Rock'n'Roll for Country, Dancing in my mind.. mfl.

Øyvind Rønning - Dagbladet - Kulturtipset

“ "Nice to hear a voice which sounds different and not like anyone else." ”
JOHN BROOKFIELD - PATHFINDER MAGAZINE, UK

“Karin Wright's album is great not a bad track on it, I have played track 1 and track 3 this week I shall be playing track 9 it is hard to pick out a favourite because they are all so good. ”
John Morris - Trust AM1278 "Keeping Country on the Radio, UK

Lars Weberg - Fredrikstad Blad

“Too Country for Rock’n’Roll».

Noe hennes to første plater har understreket.

Slipp denne skjulte skatten inn i varmen! ”

“ Fave tracks - 2,1,8,7,10 A very enjoyable album. Karin has a great country voice and the backing is superb ”
Jackie Blair - Scottish Country & Dance magazine, UK

“ Fave tracks: 1,4,5,8, A delightful album which has been years in the making. It's an interesting concept and a very honest piece of work. Well done”
Stuart Cameron - Radio Borders UK

“The twang of the guitars and the rich emotion of the vocals are authentic. It is difficult to find this level of sincerity in mainstream Nashville records these days. ”
Paul Freeman - Palo Alto Daily News

“Kicking off with passion and power, this album focuses on gritty subject-matters. Karin makes no apology for liberally injecting straightforward and impulsive sentiment into her raw, expensive, slick and competent performances”
Paul Davies - NCM Music Reviews

"Karin Wright is no poseur. She is convincing. Her sound is simplistic and down to earth. Most of all, she is serious about her music."
Svein Andersen - Aftenposten
