My theory of music is this:
"Write what you feel, whatever that is. If it is original, most people will like it, or at least relate to it. Don't copy what others do just because they sound good. Make them want to copy you because you sound better." - Jeffrey Leon Meyer
Jeffrey Leon Meyer (b. 1964) is a pianist/keyboardist, bassist and composer. As a composer, he is firmly rooted in the tradition of classical piano and orchestra, classic rock, and is strongly influenced by the film music of Hans Zimmer, EDM by Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman), Enya, Lori Line, Michael Ortega, Jurrivh and many others. As a composer, his core classical, EDM, and experimental electronic music influences come through. He composes and arranges complete works for a range of ensemble sizes from solos to choirs and full orchestra.
He started to appreciate music as a toddler when his dad played Beethoven and other classical records. Around age 2, he started making music using pots and pans in the kitchen, and changed the tone by putting soup cans inside them. Later his dad bought him a recorder flute that he quickly learned. In 4th through 6th grade he took trumpet lessons with Jim Kurty in Brattleboro, VT.
He went on to become 1st trumpet in the Brattleboro All School Elementary Band within a few months. And he tried out for the B.U.H.S. band in 9th grade and made it in as a 3rd trumpet. While in the B.U.H.S. band, he learned to play many other instruments including trombone, Euphonium, Souzaphone, French Horn, Tubular Bells, Timpani, Bass Drums, Xylophone, Glockenspiel and Cymbals (1977-1979). He played in the Jazz Ensemble (after school program) and the Brattleboro Community Band.
Around 1988 or 1989 he got a used piano that was being thrown away, and spent 3 months restoring it himself. He then started teaching himself how to play it and one summer he took some lessons at the Brattleboro Music Center with Luba Lischynski. He also performed at the Alzheimer's Walk 2015 at Flagler Beach, FL, as well as several private parties around Florida (including one where John Travolta showed up to listen).
Jeffrey studied with Hans Zimmer and Deadmau5 on Masterclass.com, as well as Annie Leibovitz photography classes. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology (AIU) and works part-time as a computer programmer/web developer.
