Biography of John Butler
When you think of Urban Soul Music, think John Butler. After 25 years of singing gospel music, this Multi-Award winning singer songwriter has reinvented himself with a new chapter in cause music.
John Butler was born on October 14, 1965 and is a native of New Orleans, LA. He started his entrepreneurial journey in the late eighties with WAJJI Records of Washington, DC.
His music style covers traditional, inspirational, contemporary and quartet gospel music, Jazz, and R&B. Observing how the industry was not designed to offer the artist lifelong security, Dr. Butler decided to remain independent and in 1995 he left his engineering career and started his own record label, Mylestone Records, Inc. In the same year he started Next Level Publishing Company.
Between 1995 and 2009, Butler recorded 130 compositions, 91 of which, were written by him.
To date, many of his compositions have been copyrighted and published with the Performance Rights Organization (Broadcasting Music Inc) globally known as, BMI.
He has traveled all over the U.S. and abroad, speaking & performing, and has recently completed a four year tour (45 weeks a year) with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, in support of our U.S. Troops.
Additionally, Butler ministers at churches and other venues throughout the United States, as well as at his home church, The Heritage Fellowship Church in Herndon, VA where Dr. Norman A. Tate is Senior Pastor.
An Ordained Minister, Dr. John Butler is a TV Host, Author, Community Activist, Mentor, Recording Artist, Entrepreneur and a former Pastor of Living Faith Christian Fellowship in Springfield, VA.
He is a graduate of New Orleans School of Engineering, New Orleans, LA
Christian Bible College, New Orleans, LA,
Liberty University of Lynchburg, VA and now holds a
Doctorate of Religious Theology from Universal Ministries School of Theology.
He is the recipient of a Golden Eagle Five Star Award for authoring a
DVD entitled: “ So You Wanna Be a Music Star”-Volume I.
John Butler is a 2006 Grammy nominee and was named
Musician Atlas Magazine’s 2008 Inspirational Artist of the Year.
