Montreal singer-songwriter, Chris Velan, has spent the past decade touring North America with notable performances at The Lincoln Center, Sundance Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Osheaga and the Virgin Festival. As the producer of Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, Velan has drawn comparisons to Paul Simon with his world music and reggae influenced folk pop. His newly-released fifth album, “The Long Goodbye”, has been called “compulsive and compelling” by the Toronto Star.

"Cunningly disguised as jangly chill-lax pop, Solidago reveals whipsmart songcraft and no bullshit guitar rockers juxtaposed amidst easy-going ditties. Think Petty, Wallflowers, Marley, Paul Simon... the kind of political/romantic moxie that makes me think hell yes, I too am a Hardway Learner."
Outlandos Music
"Chris Velan can skank like Sublime, strum like Jack Johnson and float four chords with the easy expertise of mid 90s Tom Petty. He sometimes does all three in a single song, moving seamlessly from head-nod guitar pop to bottom-heavy, surprisingly credible roots reggae..."
Performing Songwriter
"...the music was great - Chris plays a mean acoustic guitar, has a compelling voice and uses those sound-loop pedals like KT Tunstall uses to record percussive sounds and his own backing vocals for use during the next song, making him something of a one-man band."
Burlington Free Press
"Velan's breezy folk-pop is heartfelt, wide-eyed... and honest."
The Montreal Gazette
"…Velan’s [music] is so original and so apt, he places himself beyond the realm of comparison."
