Biography:

Roberto Mesa was born in Miami, FL on August 07, 1986. He was the second of four children, brought up by Cuban parents who emigrated from the communist country, prior to the Mariel, to the melting pot in search of the coveted American Dream. However, the American Dream would soon prove to be harder to attain than originally planned due to given circumstances and hardships like the death of Roberto Mesa’s father when he was only 4 years old. A year after the tragic loss, Roberto Mesa and his remaining family moved north to his current home in New Jersey. To add pain to hardship, Roberto’s mother was also diagnosed with having heart problems and was placed on disability for the rest of her life. Now fatherless, and without guidance from his mother or stepfather, Roberto sought endowment from his second family in the streets of West New York, NJ.
Roberto Mesa grew up observing the OG’s from his neighborhood commit crimes & traffic large amounts of drugs during the infamous 90’s era. He observed and learned from his new mentors, and spoke a story that needed to be told through rhymes. At age 13, Roberto Mesa began to write lyrics and experimented by recording with a simple tape deck-cassette player. Influenced by legendary rappers like Tupac, DMX, The Lox, Big Pun, & Big L, to name a few, Roberto Mesa’s talent was soon to be displayed to the world. But on July 4th, 2001, he experienced yet another setback when his home burnt down to ashes, destroying all his possessions, including his earliest recordings. All it took was a simple cigarette light to incinerate Mesa’s entire building and take many of his childhood memories with them.
After the life changing blaze, Roberto Mesa now found himself homeless for the next 2 years. During those 2 years, he moved from place to place, even sleeping in abandoned cars, and doing what he needed to do in order to survive. From selling narcotics, to bouncing from house to house, this traumatic experience sparked an epiphany in Mesa. Mesa vowed to pursue his career with diligence, never look back, and make it by any means.
At the age of 19, Roberto Mesa made the move back to his birthplace and studied at Full Sail University where he learned to engineer, work with protools, & record his own music. During this time, his focus level reached a new high, letting no distractions permeate his diligence. Unfortunately, Mesa struggled financially to keep up with his payments for school, but was able to use every skill he picked up during his short stay to make new strides in climbing his ladder of success. While in Little Havana, Roberto Mesa was able to achieve many accomplishments in his career. After a studio session with Don Dinero show cased Mesa’s talent, he soon afterwards became Don Dinero’s A&R and producer. During this time, Roberto Mesa was also featured on television multiple times and was even recognized on the Miami Herald Newspaper alongside the Mayor of Miami at the time, Joe Carollo.
After a prodigious 4 years spent in Florida, Roberto Mesa came back to West New York, were he sought to further pursue his career and establish his name and expand his fan base. Roberto Mesa teamed up with a local group that he’d known since his high school years, Marvelus Musica, to further develop his skills. However, Mesa was often seen as the diamond in the rough, given the fact that he had yet to be given the opportunity to let his talents illuminate the stage. Mesa used this opportunity to reestablish not only his fan base in his hometown, but also reconnect with many of his childhood friends and find support, motivation, and a new style to further diversify his talent.
After being back home in West New York for over a year now, Mesa was able to feed off of his towns energy and creativity. He observed many of his friends go through real life scenarios that needed to be expressed. On October 7th 2010, Spenser “Mack” Hernandez, one of Roberto Mesa’s close friends and hood’ legend, was gunned down in his home. Watching a childhood friend being buried at such a young age and before his time was a traumatic experience that taught Mesa a valuable lesson in life. He realized that life is too short and tomorrow is never promised, so each day must be treated like it’s your last with no time to waste. Mack’s story, along with many others that we have lost in our neighborhood, needed to be told. Though this was a day filled with melancholy, it also marked a day of change and new hope in WNY. Roberto Mesa, alongside fellow childhood friends, vowed to never let Mack’s name ever be forgotten. From tragedy came triumph, and so came the birth of Mack Media Entertainment. To date, Roberto Mesa, alongside Mack Media Entertainment (multi-media, management, advertisement and marketing company), are working hand in hand at Mack Studios with the same goals in mind.
