Biography:

Formed in a time when the definition of “live music” seems in constant flux, Colorado’s Springdale Quartet may upon first inspection seem slightly out of place with some of their contemporaries. Their sound and style, based foremost on a compositional foundation with its roots in the jazz and blues traditions, has been described at times as “vintage”. But the real stuff- the music itself- cannot be so readily labeled. Drawing additionally from the musical institutions of Heavy organ, upbeat funk, and progressive rock, Springdale’s live show is anything but antiquated- in fact, it’s dance music!

Blending reverence for the technical traditions of each members’ instrument with a desire to improvise musically results in the creation of new and distinctive sonic landscapes every night- for this four-piece, it’s about creating a sound that is dually familiar and unique; that both comforts and excites. Springdale Quartet was featured at Minnesota’s 10,000 Lakes Festival in 2008, the Waterfront Music Festival in 2010, and in 2011 performed at Colorado’s inaugural Snowball Music Festival, Winterfest On The Mountain, and the prestigious Telluride Jazz Celebration.

They have also performed at some of Colorado’s most prominent venues including the Fox Theatre, the Boulder Theater, Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, the Gothic Theatre, the Mishawaka, Dazzle Jazz and more with acts including Maceo Parker, the Benevento/Russo Duo, Tea Leaf Green, The New Mastersounds, and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. Never forgetting to have a sense of humor, Springdale Quartet have emerged from their humble beginnings on Springdale Lane to make a lasting impression on the ever-growing Colorado music scene, and they’re doing it in style…

And finally, with the help of Brad Smalling (Evergroove Studio) and David Glasser (Airshow Mastering), Springdale Quartet released their first full length debut album titled “Noisefactory” on May 7th, 2011- you can get your copy now through your favorite online medium or at your favorite Colorado record store. SQ has some great shows coming up, so come out, dance your ass off, and have a great time. Listen… Enjoy…

“These guys love Colorado, and Colorado loves them back...”
Ashley Dean - The Colorado Daily

"Boulder's Springdale Quartet fuse together original jazz, funk, and blues elements with upbeat tempos, heavy jazz organ, and musical spontaneity while adding modern techniques and genre-blending melodies. The result: an undeniably funky fresh sound that’s 100 percent Boulder, but also unique enough to stand out...."
Sheila Moriarity - The Marquee Magazine

"Springdale Quartet is a band everyone should know about... I was blown away. One of the few non-bluegrass bands playing the weekend (Waterfront Music Festival 2010 at The Mishawaka), the boys from Boulder brought their version of mostly instrumental funk-rock to the forefront. On top of it all, these kids have a ton of moxie..."
