"It's not the money that drives us on. It's the moon and the stars and the rising sun" - J L Davidson.
The craft of music is about finding the right sound, connecting it to the right words, and delivering it with the right feeling. I've been working at it for as long as I can remember. Sometimes I get some help from my friends and sometimes I have to do it on my own. Sometimes it's inspired and sometimes it's like shoveling gravel.
I have no idea where real music comes from, only that it must be some sacred place. Inspired music shows up when you least expect it and disappears just as quickly. I can't hope to explain it, but I know it when I hear it. I hear it in Howlin' Wolf's voice and in Ry Cooder's slide guitar. Townes Van Zandt songs are lousy with it. It's like the wind moving the trees on a summer night when you're really in love. It's beautiful and it hurts sometimes. It's truer than you're prepared to accept but you can't live long without. It's as fragile as a bee's wing and as cold and hard as a death sentence. There is no angel, there is no muse, that can bring you to it, or it to you. It's what I live for.
“...singing a Van Morrison tune to an appreciative standing-room-only crowd...”
Chicago Tribune, Tempo
“...making waves in influential circles... And it's no wonder...one of the most enjoyable and fun-loving bands on the trail...including (Bartholomew's) own "I Feel Like Running" and "You Were the One", both tasty numbers highlighted by strong three-part harmony.”
Illinois Entertainer, Streetwalkin' on the Maroons
“...first-rate musicians...astonishingly tight...big enough and strong enough to take over the joint - as it proved recently when Cahoots opened for Mickey Gilley to a jammed house...Cahoots comes across as a kind of urban Eagles...self-assured and good humored.”
