Swamp Donkey. Born in a slough in Big Valley, Alberta, is steeped in more than just hard living’ country folklore and a penchant for punk. Describing the band’s sound is like trying to describe a hurricane from a comfortable old chair in the eye of the storm, whisky in hand. “cunk” is as close as you get: Country inspired, punk re-wired.
Drawing upon the country sensibilities of singer-songwriters like Buck Owens and Del Reeves, and infusing those classic tales with a rough edged helping of Americana roots rock, Swamp Donkey careens through its live sets in a “hell- bent- for- leather” style. At the heart of the band’s sound is a hankering’ for simple meaning in a world grown too complex.
