Biography:

If award-winning Detroit emcee Miz Korona had followed the rigid rules she’s been given since her childhood, she would have never opened up for hip-hop icons like Scarface and Run-DMC, or freestyled alongside Eminem and Xzibit in the blockbuster film 8 Mile. A cowardly music industry would prefer she either rap about sex or keep her lips sealed, but she spits blistering bars without compromise. “I have a no-holds-barred approach: ‘You’re going to respect me,’” Korona insists. “If you stand firm, you make people pay attention. She began to make her rounds at city hotspots like St. Andrews Hall and Detroit’s legendary Lush Lounge, where she would showcase her skills and network with the city’s movers and shakers. ”Her formidable delivery and sharp punchlines helped her establish a huge following. But most moviegoers remember her from her portrayal of “Vanessa” in 8 Mile, the blockbuster film starring hometown hero Eminem. In the scene, she freestyles alongside Em and multiplatinum-selling artist Xzibit, each of whom play plant workers on lunch break. ”In years since, she has won Detroit Music Awards (Best Hip-Hop Artist) and Detroit Hip-Hop Awards (Best Female Artist three years in a row), and appeared on albums by Detroit staples and artists around the world. But the industry sees Miz Korona staking her claim the way the real greats do: product. Her official debut: The Injection. shows versatility as well as cocky confidence “Do That For Me” and the pitfalls of inner-city living “The Real Nightmare” with equal candor. But The Injection’s shining moments appear on songs such as the single “Like A Zoo,” and “Playground” which pair pounding production with her equally formidable rhymes.

Press:

“Miz Korona grew a following in Detroit, including taking home Detroit Music and Detroit Hip-Hop awards. Although a male-dominated genre, she opened for Scarface and Run-DMC. She played Venessa in the film “8 Mile” and appeared in the lunch battle scene outside an auto plant with Eminem and Xzibit. Last summer, Miz Korona released her debut album, “The Injection.” The project took a lot of sacrifice and support to get off the ground, Miz Korona said. Before cutting the album, people often asked her for a CD, but she never had one. She managed to remain relevant in the music scene without a tangible product, but she wanted to release an album to show “I have a place in this game.””

“I want to introduce you all to an AMAZING MC that a friend of mine told me (shout out to Breezy!) about who goes by the name of Miz Korona. Does she look familiar?! If so its because you saw her battling it out with Xzibit, Eminem, and a few other male rappers during the lunch truck battle scene of 8 mile. Miz Korona is an AMAZING MC and is putting REAL female rappers back on the map. Check out her interview and bio and get to know Miz Korona a little better!”
The Fab Fem - The Fab Fem .Com

“Miz Korona has been one of the most acclaimed underground MCs out of Detroit for years, an independent artist with hard lyrics and a taste for the classic soul of Motor City hip hop beats. The city has had its share of successes over the years with certain hip hop artists getting commercial attention, but the industry hype has managed to evade many of area’s best artists. With the recent dramatic shift in the music business favoring independent artists, Miz Korona is finally getting the opportunity for her music to reach a wider audience. The Injection is Miz Korona’s debut album, a breakthrough moment after years of working in the underground. The 13 bold tracks present a diversity of subject matters and styles, all coming together as a memorable package from a true hip hop artist. Oh yeah, and a lot of people will recognize her from the verse she killed while rapping with Xzibit in the feature film 8 Mile. The new album, The Injection, is getting great reviews on the street.”

“I’ve been saying for awhile now on this blog that Miz Korona is the truth. Novice Detroit hip-hop fans might recognize her as the woman that battled Xzibit in the movie 8 Mile but she’s done a heck of a lot more with her music since that cameo. Her lyrical style is all strong-arm Detroit shit verse after verse but she’s sweet as pie in person. Get to know her if you’re unfamiliar. And support her most recent release, The Injection, which dropped over the summer.”
Word Lush - Last Night's Mixtape

“Long-time Detroit rapper Miz Korona couldn’t have planned her album release party any better than this. She spent months trying to secure a Detroit venue at which to throw a proper release for her debut LP, The Injection. But for one reason after another, all the venues fell through. That must have been in divine order because anybody who attended her performance this past Saturday night in conjunction with the Allied Media Conference would probably agree that the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Design (MOCAD) was the perfect setting on a perfect night for the queen of Detroit hip-hop to throw down. The best song of her performance was probably “Cooking” in which Korona relates every aspect of the street life into cuisine. Her wordplay has always been crazy, but she takes it a step further on that song.”
