Explosive is what most people think of when they hear C4. This adjective is very true but at the same time the name applies to the versatility in the device named for this artist who has grown to receive such a very eclectic fan base. His style of music blends hip hop from all corners of the globe particularly southern rap with the big stadium sound of 80’s Rock, the feel good of Classical Music, the morbid appeal of Black Metal, and real life struggles channeled from nostalgic Funk, R&B, and Reggae. C4 has sometimes been explained as a Caucasian Kanye West or hip-hop Trent Reznor for his ability to match mind-blowing production with high-caliber lyricism transforming to the ultimate one-man band performance.
Currently C4 is in the studio recording his next untitled solo effort with the intent of blowing his last release “Portrait of a Wise Guy” out of the water. “Portrait of a Wise Guy” was his first solo album in 6 years as he has been hard at work on mix tapes and various productions for some of the Virginia Underground’s top artists. The album, which started as a free internet ep, gained significant buzz and new fans who became thirsty for much more, commanding him to extend the 7 track effort into a full length release. Live Performance though is what C4 and The Undustry are developing their respected reputation from with high performance stage antics feeding off the crowds own energy. The ability to take a brand new song to a crowd who doesn’t know the material and still walk away with success and very hyped up spectators is rare.
Music has always been apart of C4’s life since he gained his ability to communicate. Born Brett Saunders growing up in South Richmond with his mother and step-father, it exposed him to all different genres from music with his parents blasting classic rock and metal to his friends in the neighborhood introducing him to Gangsta Rap. Plagued by his environment, C4 became very angry as a child, yet sad inside. It wasn’t until a stay in Tuckers Psychiatric Facility for homicidal depression in his teens that he truly discovered his need to channel that negative energy in his life through the format of song. When he was 16, he met an up and coming artist in the area named Methotical who gave him a cd and showed C4 the methods of recording his own material professionally at home. It was then C4 brought his team together and started Hellbound Records. Briefly before that time receiving cleared instrumentals from other producers was quite the economic challenge forcing him to making beats himself. With a few pointers from longtime childhood friend Mozart, C4 was ready to bring his material to the masses. Fast forward to a couple years ago, C4 sat down with good friends Travis O’Malley, David Skat, Chaotik, and Methotical and talked of forming a team with one common goal which was to take the world by storm with their powerful sounding music. This meeting turned into what is now called The Undustry.
Over time C4 has released 5 albums, engineered over 2000 instrumentals, and performed 3-4 hundred shows all around. He has shared the stage and spotlight with the likes of Insane Clown Posse, hed (PE), Lil Boosie, Webbie, Yo Gotti, ABK, Hopsin, The Undustry, LIFELIN3, and many other underground artists. Hellbound and the Undustry now run full surfaced through his veins and there’s no telling where this ride is going to take him from here; except, we do know which direction it’s heading.
