“Stomps Hills to perform before Lynryd Skynyrd concert July 12 By Emily Beckett Published 1:23pm Wednesday, July 10, 2013 On Friday, July 12, Stomps Hills will perform on the Charter Communications Stage at Pelham’s Oak Mountain Amphitheater before a concert featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd and Corey Smith. “We’re happy for this opportunity,” Blackwell said. “We’ve been in consideration for this for over a year, and we got lucky. Lynyrd Skynyrd is probably our biggest influence in our style of music.” The band formed in 2008 and derives its name from Stomps Hills, an area located between Yellowleaf and Waxahatchee creeks, where members live and practice. “After each very loud practice we would laugh and say, ‘We shook the leaves in Stomps Hills tonight,’” Blackwell said. “We’re a true Southern rock band,” Blackwell said. “We’re a mix of rock and country but more on the rock side. Just good-time rock and roll music.” The band will soon release its first recorde”

“Local band to appear on reality show By Drew Granthum Published 5:48pm Tuesday, August 2, 2011 Email Comments At some point, nearly everyone who has ever picked a guitar or sung along with the car radio has dreamed of being a rock star. The thought of being around the glitz, the glam, and legions of screaming fans everywhere strikes the fancy of day dreamers ages 8 to 80. For most, it will remain a fantasy. Rock n’ roll isn’t exactly an easy field to get into, and even established artists can struggle in obscurity. But for most, the opportunity to have a chance to be a rock star for just a day is too much to pass up on. Just ask the members of local band Stomps Hills. For at least one night, Stomps Hills, a Southern rock outfit from Clanton made up of Stephen Blackwell, Katrina Blackwell, Marty Minor, Kenny Nunn and Kenneth Kirkland, will get the opportunity to live out those dreams as part of the new reality show “War of Rock.” ”

“Clanton Police Auxiliary to host Battle Jam By Drew Granthum The event, which will be at the Chilton County Fairgrounds, will be the first of its kind for the Auxiliary. “I expect ages from 13 to 60,” Hicks said. “You can blend in any ages here.” “It’s a family event for charity. Everybody’s doing this for charity. The bands are doing this on their own time,” he said. The bands brought in are not the average garage bands either, according to Hicks. All acts are from Alabama, and all are rated highly among their peers. “All of the acts performing are ranked within the Top 12 in the state, and two have record deals,” he said. “Most of [the music] will be pop and easy rock. One has a country sound. If you come out and listen, something will appeal to you.” The acts include Endeavor, Burning Bright, Jesse Minor, Stomps Hills, West Brothers Band, and Next Flight Out. Tickets are $8 in advance, and $10 at the gate. For more information, call (334) 451-5026. ”
