WORKIN MINERVA
“Not all music has to have a label of looks to match the sound… We firmly believe that no one should be typed based on appearance, everyone has their own colors and flavor… We express ourselves based on how we feel and play the music that comes from within. We don’t try to “FIT” into any genre.. And our stage presence holds an edge mirroring the lyrics and the story behind it all. “ If there had to be a typing of genres the band would suggest an Acoustic Alternative Rock style.

Formed in 2010, Workin’ Minerva began their journey together when Athena, singer/songwriter and solo performing artist decided to incorporate a fuller sound to her music by inviting Dave Svaboda on drums, aka Animal, Marie Vermilyea on bass and Jake Rodgers on lead guitar. She found the support and sound that she was looking for.
Athena captivates the audience with her dynamic stage presence and vocal qualities comparative to P!NK, Grace Slick and Annie Lennox combined. Her guitar takes the heat as she pounds and picks her compositional passion and lyrical symmetry. The 4 of them have an amazing psychic connection while performing on stage leaving an emotionally powerful impact on the audience.
The band’s name is influenced by Minerva the Roman goddess whom Hellenizing Romans from the 2nd century BC onwards equated with the Greek goddess Athena. She
was the virgin goddess of poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, crafts, magic, and the inventor of music. The band also enjoys the play on words, your “workin’ my nerve-ah!”.

Workin Minerva has opened for “TAPROOT” and also played at the WORLD famous WHISKEY A GO-GO in downtown Hollywood. They’ve headlined with Seasons of Insanity at the Reno Knitting Factory and played Reno Rainbow Festival just to name a few. Athena the Lead singer songwriter of the band has opened for the well known acoustic artist Chris Pureka, Chantelle Tibbs and Blair Hanson. She has played a variety of venues solo such as the KNITING FACTORY, the UNDERGROUND for the 4th annual “Made In Reno” and the University of Reno, NV. She has recently been featured on Indie4Life.com for her music. As with any band just starting out, Workin Minerva had to make there way through the typical bar gigs. Since then, they have been playing a variety of main stage and outdoor festivals. You can expect them to rise above as they “Reach For The Stars” ~Athena.
