... Bereits im zarten Alter von 10 Jahren bekam James, geboren in Columbus/Georgia von seiner Mutter Anna Belcher sein erstes Schlagzeug geschenkt. Bereits nach einem halben Jahr folgte der erste Auftritt im Jahre 1963 in einer Diskothek in Atlanta/Georgia zusammen mit einer örtlichen DJ-Größe.
Born in Columbus/Georgia to Anna Belcher, James got his first drumset already at the tender age of 10. Already after a half year the first appearance followed in the year 1963 in a discotheque in Atlanta/Georgia as well as a local DJ-size.
When in school, he played in various highschool bands. In 1970 he undertook the first large tour with "The Third Generation", a soul and funk band, with which he toured the southern US.
