GRADDAi
Graddai is a six member “PowerSoul” band from Baltimore Maryland originated in 2008. “PowerSoul” music is an artistic collection of soul music with a more aggressive commercial edge, fused with other popular styles of music such as rock, hiphop, pop, jazz, and r&B. The genre was originated in 2008 by the indie American band Graddai who looks to push the genre mainstream.
Graddai separates themselves from today’s cliché image with a unique sense of style that compliments their music ability. This nerdy group of young men pushes the envelope by mocking the current impression of today’s pop culture. Rebelling against what is accepted in society, these guys believe “music is not a fashion, it’s a passion”-Kato Ceaser.
The name “Graddai” is short for graduation day. It demonstrates the day nerds will over come. The day that you’re past efforts determines your future achievements, Judgment day if you will. After being judged and criticized for being your self this is the day that it all matters. The “i” in Graddai is a symbol of solitude within the band.
Kato Ceaser the writer/poetic lyricist and Josh Zeno the writer and melodic vocalist/lead guitar player assembled this band. Accompanied by the sexy soothing saxophone player (Gary Who), the dynamic drummer (Caddi Chris), an intricate pianist (Smokey), and the ground rumbling bass guitarist (Jay Alsina) this band has it all.
“REBEL AGAINST THE BULLY”
“There is so much talent in Baltimore when it comes to music. I mean music all stars were made here like Dj Frank Ski, Dru Hill, Ms. Tony, K-Swift, and the one and only RYE RYE. It’s so many to list. I just think that Baltimore musicisians should get more credit and exposure than they do. I am definitley here to push that!

“here is something very special coming out of the Baltimore area and it is from one group of individuals. The band Graddai (pronounced Grad Day) are a local band that is making a some substantial noise. They are a “power soul”band which is a name they came up with themselves with a bass guitar player, a saxophone player, a drummer, a keyboard player, a singer who also plays guitar, and a rapper. Most of them are coming from the Milford mill, Randallstown area. All of these kids are coming from a area where all the new talent coming out is slim to none most local rappers are very “hood” and they rap about what they do in the hood. This band Graddai has something for everybody. They include hard hitting, heart jerking vocals, soulful melodies as well as hardcore lyrics that everyone around the world can relate to.”

“My first impression when I sat down and looked at the group, I thought, “Oh, it’s a Gen Y group. There is an Independent Artist named PJ Morton. You reminded me of him, the style, the glasses, and the laid back look. Then, I looked at Zeno, and thought “Ok, he reminds me of Lil Wayne” , with his long locs and skinny jeans. Then, when you opened your mouths, you completely blew me! You flipped the script on me, it was a pleasant musical surprise”

“I’ve been playing for 12 years now. I started off with sax because it’s my mom’s favorite instrument. When you are in the 5th grade, you pick an instrument to play. I picked the sax but they didn’t have saxophones for us to use in school. The teacher wanted me to start off with the clarinet, but my parents didn’t have money to afford a clarinet. So, they saw someone at church who said they had a clarinet. We went to church and opened the case and it was a saxophone. Ever since then I have been playing. I went to Baltimore School of the Arts for high school. I play multiple instruments, I picked up drums, I’m starting to play guitar and a little piano, but the saxophone is my baby”

“The lyrics, the lyrics are so deep! Once everybody drops down from the break, we seem to connect more on that song more than any other song. We don’t even have to look at each other, and we know whether we are going to continue, keep the break running, or slow down the tempo. We can feel what the music needs and we all pull in together. It’s like kinesthetic.”
