Biography:

Caitlin Harnett hails from Sydney, Australia but her songs evoke Laurel Canyon of the early 1970s. They share the personal and poetic nature of Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne’s early songs, along with the fragility of Judee Sill, youthful in their outlook but with age-old concerns at their core. Combined with her guitar, banjo and harmonica, her songs have the lilt of folk, a touch of pop and the honesty of Americana. Caitlin is one of the youngest signings to Mushroom Music Publishing, Australia’s largest independent music publisher. She has been recognised both internationally and locally for her songwriting.

September 2013 saw Caitlin head to Ottawa, Canada to record her debut full length record ‘The River Runs North’ with producer Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Howe Gelb), Jim Bryson and a group of Ottawa based musicians. The record is scheduled for release October 13th 2014.

What started as a 2 week recording project has led to a 3 month adventure, which saw her touring from the East coast of Canada to the West. In between she found time for shows in Boston and the Rockwood Music Hall in New York.

Caitlin’s music has quickly garnered International interest. The last 2 years has been spent travelling between Australia and North America. During this time Caitlin has given showcase performances at major International festivals including NXNE in Toronto, Americana Music Festival in Nashville and the Northside Festival in Brooklyn. In October 2014 Caitlin will launch her new release at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. In Australia she has performed in many venues around the country and is a regular on the Festival circuit.

Tracks from Caitlin’s previous releases have featured on Australian Primetime television and the compilations from Brite Revolution ‘Americana Song Sampler 2012′ and ABC Australia’s ‘Best of Blues and Roots 2012′.

“A folk singer’s voice, a country singers heartache’s and a songwriter’s talent.” Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald

“Sounds like a wonderful lush mix of folk and country with soulful touches.” Chris Familton, Post To Wire

“She doesn’t seem to worry about modern trends; it’s all about classic songwriting – and a voice filled with heartache, sorrow and joy. “Jeff Jenkins, The Music, ABC radio

“Her sound is earnest and wonderfully simple, like a straight answer in a sea of bullshit.” Emma Dallas, PAN Magazine

Press:

““The Raven is as pretty a song as you'll hear this year, and like the album's opener, Saviour (I Tried), is filled with small flutters and warm air, sung with a lingering sadness. Sadness gives the lightly stepping, brass and strings-punctuated Benny a sense of pain to come, and the jauntier For A While Now a counterweight to the punchy acoustic rhythm. It lends the country rockish Honey Are You Alright a good dusting of Lucinda Williams to balance its Jackson Browne sweetness and plants Darling It's You in a folk bed previously made by Laura Marling. t's never a glum album though; the songs too warm and inviting, the spirit underneath too strong, to deter engagement. That said, if Harnett was tempted into becoming what Bragg called "a little black cloud in a dress", you'd go along for the ride."””
Bernard Zuel - Sydney Morning Herald

“A rose by any other name . . Lucinda Williams may well be some kind of inspiration for Sydney's Caitlin Harnett, working similarly from a country music base as she does. But it's the musical cross-pollinations of earlier female forces such as Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro that strike as touchstones on Harnett's debut of both easy-rolling and intricate songs, full of beautifully broad 70s-style pop arrangements and stark country feeling. Whatever the backing, these songs soar wonderfully on Harnett's honeyed voice”
Andrew Khedoori - 2SER

“It was a pivotal scene in Neighbours last week. As Andrew Robinson revealed to Tash that he didn’t love her, and he sent Facebook messages to the third member of the love triangle, Summer, the soundtrack was provided by Sydney singer-songwriter Caitlin Harnett. “Watch us breaking, folding beneath the fire,” Caitlin sang, “a battle between what we have and what we desire.” Before Now is the achingly beautiful opening cut on Caitlin’s second EP, All In The Golden Afternoon. You wonder how one so young – Caitlin has just said goodbye to her teenage years – can write something so melancholic and poetic. “I love you is just another thing we said to make it right,” Caitlin sings, “You tell me this is dying, well, I’ve been dying for too long now.” . Many artists are doing the fey pop thing, but few are doing it with as much depth and poetic insight. . Caitlin Harnett is going to be a star, it’s just a matter of when.”
Jeff Jenkins - Impress Magazine

“Her sound is earnest and wonderfully simple, like a straight answer in a sea of bullshit. It is post-dreamy and threaded through with the good elements of country. If I had to choose one reason to listen to her it would be this, when she lifts you follow.”
Dale Slammer - Pan Magazine

“Every now and then you run across an artist who you feel, rather than hear. When I first saw Caitlin, I closed my eyes, and her music took me away. Yes, I heard it, but I also felt it which is a rare thing.”
Tim Daley XYZ Network

"Caitlin Harnett is one of the freshest talents I've heard in a long time. Her EP is extraordinarily good. I'm sure that an enormous career is going to grow from this Tiny Spark"
- Jeff Jenkins - Inpress Magazine

“Caitlin Harnett's debut EP Tiny Spark is a beautiful testament to just how lovely an acoustic guitar and melodic vocals can be. ”
