Biography:

We are Anima Animus Animal.
Alexis Karl (Vocals) and Paul Ashton (Synthesizers) present Be Deathless, a musical project combining gothic opera, ambient and industrial music. We weave a tale of metamorphosis sung in many tongues, from Sanskrit, French, Italian, Uzbek as well as Portuguese and ancient Persian. We tell the story of a dark new world. Live performances have included trapeze artists, fire eaters, cellists, Haitian Voodoo drummers, narration and dance.
We are currently working on our second album, Night Stalker, which incorporates gothic opera, synthesizer and heavy industrial beats.

Press:

"The particular darkness found on Anima Animus Animal’s latest EP Tales of a Hollow Heart has a breadth and depth strangely mirrored in the guiding angelic voice accompanying the listener. It is a short journey through gradients of dark ambient and minimal electronics, and from within the density emanates truly haunting operatic vocals. Jungian in name, and even Jungian in symbolic structure, this gothic opera explores the shadow side realms of the human psyche, but still preserves the pearl of wisdom gained from any descent into the Abyss. The duo of Alexis Karl and Paul Ashton create a textured and dense atmosphere with such precision and control. Continuing the tradition established on prior EP’s, Anima Animus Animal extends into slightly more contemporary industrial territory while maintaining the mystical gothic flavor. Among the dark walls of synthesizers are rhythms and even beats, providing the formless backdrop to a heart-gripping, multi-tongued operatic narration."

"Where many artists fall short of their promises to deliver great operatic fusion music, Anima Animus Animal follows through and excels!...Also a performance troupe of many skills including dance, aerial arts and filmmaking, this group truly has it nailed down with respect to their musical endeavors.... With Paul Ashton using minimal but powerful electronic and synthesized backdrops to propel and add texture, and the dynamic vocals of Alexis Karl ( who has a range nearing that of Diamanda Galas and the skill and command to use it) their album, Be Deathless takes the listener on a journey through a spiral of shifting time, mysticism and archetypes, sung in languages including Sanskrit,Ancient Persian, and Italian to name but a few. Truly, Anima Animus Animal has captured the rich, decadent and esoteric side of gothic ambient music, and I'd highly recommend this album if you are looking for a soulful blend of light and dark-it's a great atmospheric experience."

“Salford MUsic Festival Triumphs The curtain came down last night on the first Salford Music Festival after a roaring all day happening at The Ritz which showcased some of the best bands in Salford and Manchester. The music ranged from rap and hip hop to goth opera, indie and rock.”
