Biography:

Bobby is the Lone Standing member of this legendary 1960,s band The Teemates. While 2 other members are still alive and perform Regrettably issues from the past persist.. After a variety of names the band was given its founding name The Teemates in January of 1964/ It was Bobby Polhemus,Bryan Post and Joseph Shefsky who founded founded the band. In January of 1964 Richard Staff was added as Lead Singer and Bass Guitar. The band was primarily a Rock Garage Band specializing in Rockabilly. When the Beatles emerged Joseph Shefsky the Bands Manager quickly reorganized the group which led to the Teemates becoming the first ever National Americas answer to the Beatles. During the period between Feb 1964 and June the band presented a few different lead Guitarists. Gary Mercury along with Rick Schaffer. before finally settling on a newcomer Robbie Lundius (Nee Lundon of upstate New York.) The Teemates debuted at the New York State Pavilion of the Worlds Fair around June of 1964 covering many of the Beatles songs and within days found themselves among the legends of Rock. Cousin Brucie interviewed them live on WABC radio within weeks and by August the band was the darlings of the East Coast Music scene. While the Teemates never charted on Billboard or Cashbox Magazines their Originals soon took off soon after signing with Audio Fidelity Records (Itself a rarity as the Label previously recorded only Jazz Dixieland and Big Band artists) It would be decades later
that the Teemates emerged with their legendary status based upon their Originals but one song in particular became the anthem for other young start up Bands in the late 90s and Biennials. "Moving Out" was presented to the band by Shefsky who wrote all the lyrics of the Bands original material but musically lacked any semblance of something bearable to listen to. "The dude was a Broadway songwriter quipped Richie and Bobby who themselves gave music to the lyrics However "Moving Out" was presented to the group as an answer to "Shout" by the Isley Brothers which the band had performed at the World Fair with huge success. Sensing legal problems down the road Bobby took it upon himself to develop the RUN UP THE FRETBOARDS of the Guitar then giving the song its hefty savvy and which is played Worldwide to this day. The Teemates magical spell lasted from early 1964 to October 1965. Largely because of infighting among Ritchie and Bobby, drinking problems and finally The War in Vietnam snaring both Ritchie and Robbie. While Bobby tried to keep Bryan Post interested in locating new members and continuing on, Post instead took the lead from a new Manager the band acquired in mid 1965 changing the Bands name from the Teemates to the Kickers largely because of the influence the band had on the new New York Football Team THE JETS. Bryan went his way and Bobby later hooked up with another band called the Lil Devils. He continued with this band as with the Teemates maintaining their home stand at Broadways famous Jazz and Dixieland Venue THE METROPOLE CAFE.. Bobby left thatt band after 8 months and founded another band naming themselves NICKLE BAGGE.
Bobbys presence at the Metropole lasted until late 1968 where he then went on the road with many well known legendary Acts as a side man.( During their heyday the Teemates (Nee Kickers) backed up some of the largest Legends in Rocks musical history but unfortunately because of the rift between the members and the Photographer few photos of the Teemates along with the legendary acts they worked with can be located. As well their performances on Live Television via WPIX NY with the Clay Cole Show-the tapes were erased and re-used for future TV Shows.
As of 2019-Bobby has continued to represent the legacy of the band age makes it difficult to perform Live including major hearing loss as well as vocal problems. That said, I am content to not be in contact with the remaining members. (It was later disclosed to Bobby by the former Manager Joe Shefsky that the other band members tried to oust him during their time together. Not a very amusing bit of News for Bobby along with other revelations regarding the bands attitude towards him back then. Not with standing all this-The 4 members were indeed a team in Public and very few can critique the bands well known tightness as both musicians and songsters with distinct harmonic styles. Bobby is now 78 years of age, does not perform that often but occasionally Joins with other members of his Virginia based Blues Society for Jams and appearances. I always receive a great deal of Joy and comfort in the fact that so many still enjoy-both the Teemates , and my personal original recordings worldwide today. FYI I have performed under a variety of different names over the years Like CALUMET, Bobby Palamino Bob Polhemus. But it is Bobby of the Teematesis the name I use today. Enjoy everyone and thanks for stopping by.

“Juggling the dual influences of Buddy Holly with the British Invasion combos of the day, marked by occasional side trips into surf rock and teen pop, the band brandished an immediately likeable sound. A smart selection of songs, beaming with a fresh and innocent complexion, “Jet Set Dance Disco” features winning cuts such as the taunting garage punk bite of “Movin’ Out,” the stirring Searchers styled “No More Tomorrows” and respectable versions of The Ventures’ “Walk Don’t Run” and Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman.” Fired by youthful energy and a real feel for the music they played, The Teemates were definitely a band to be reckoned with. Bobby Calumet, who for many years now, has performed under the name, Bob Polhemus, was kind enough to share his memories of The Teemates with The Lance Monthly, as well as bringing us up to date on what he is currently doing.]”
Beverly Paterson - The Lance Monthly (August September

“The Teemates actually managed to breath some new life into "Walk don't Run '64", I think it's because they play it with more directness and don't have that horrible whiney organ that mars the Ventures take. From Brendan review of Sundazed Lost Legends of Surf Vol 4”
Alex - Consolidated Fuzz

“Amazingly, at 68 years of age, there’s no stopping Bobby. Get ready to be pleasantly surprised when you listen to his unique 60’s twang and swoon to his down to earth demeanor. Keep your eye out for his future work as he tears up the rock ‘n roll world!”
