TeacHeR'z Pet is a Kansas City based party band that's been rocking top KC clubs and venues since 1993. This multi-talented group of seasoned musicians keeps the dance floor shakin’ all night long with their energetic delivery of a fresh and diverse repertoire equally appealing to fans from Gen-X/Y to Baby Boomers.
More than just a catchy name for a band, the "Teacher'z Pet" moniker was a natural choice since front man Steve Waters and lead guitarist Mike Makowski both hold Bachelor's degrees in vocal music and taught professionally before becoming the "Teacherz" you all know and love. Coupled with the well-honed talents of drummer Paul Waters and bassist Gary Roberts, Teacher’z Pet sets itself apart from the musical pack with their tight vocal harmonies, technical instrumental prowess, and electrifying stage-presence.
Teacher’z Pet maintains a busy schedule at KC area clubs, concert venues, corporate events, wedding receptions, and private parties. Don’t roll the dice on a band for your next important event – let Teacher’z Pet make it a night your guests will never forget!
MEET YOUR TEACHERZ:
Lead Vocals – Steve Waters
Front-man “Stevie Lee” sports a set of pipes most singers would make a deal with the Devil to posses, always on-target with armor-piercing range and accuracy. You can feel the depth of emotion in his dynamic delivery whether crooning to the ladies on a sexy ballad or belting out the gutsy vocal riffs of Robert Plant or Vince Neil. New fans wait in anticipation as the band covers Aerosmith’s “Dream On” wondering if Stevie Lee will take the chicken exit when the goin’ gets tough...but when the moment comes jaws drop and fists fly up in the air as he nails Steven Tyler’s stratospheric notes with power and precision. He’s worked hard sharpening his voice to the razor’s edge of definition, clocking over nine years of advanced private vocal training on his way to a Bachelor of Music in Voice, and earns continuing education credit by sharing his immense talent with fans at every show.
Drums & Vocals – Paul Waters
Paul Waters was born to pound the skins, with a God-given sense of feeling, dynamics, and a rock-steady pulse that puts fans on the dance floor in every set. This natural talent, steeped to perfection over years of professional performance, sets the pace for the heart-pounding rhythm section driving Teacher’z Pet shows. Fans often equate his style with that of the late John Bonham, legendary drummer for Led Zeppelin. Listen closely to any of the band’s covers of the most technical of Zeppelin tunes, and you’ll be certain to agree with the comparison. Paul adds tight vocal harmonies to the mix, and gives his brother a break on lead vocals with several crowd-pleasing favorites including "Keep Your Hands to Yourself” and "What I Like About You.” Look for Paul thumping away behind his beautiful custom double kick drums emblazoned with Teacher’z Pet flames. Come feel the heat!
Guitar & Vocals – Mike “Milkman” Makowski
The “Milkman” delivers every time – and so does lead guitarist Mike Makowski, bringing the crowd to their feet with blazing solos and chunky rhythm riffs with that unmatched Les Paul tone. There’s no place he’d rather be than standing in front of that ominous Marshall stack rocking a dance floor full of adoring fans, with the possible exception of wandering the floor amongst the revelers still shredding away! This guy loves the fans and they love him right back, in a relentless exchange of pure energy. Another of the namesake “Teacher’z,” Mike earned a Bachelor’s in Music Education from UCM and taught in area schools in the early years of the band. That knowledge and talent gets put to good use on the top-side of Teacher’z Pet vocal harmonization. You may already know that Mike won a contest of KC guitarists sponsored by FM 98.9 The Rock, earning an appearance live onstage with Tesla. Come feel the energy pouring from the stage at the next “Milkman” delivery!
Bass & Vocals – Gary T. Roberts
Born in Chicago, raised in KC, Gary has rocked venues across the country from Sturgis to Myrtle Beach. Gary mastered his technique over the years walkin’ the blues and putting the thump in R&B grooves for several busy mid-west bands. He is proud to have shared the stage with legendary Blues artists Bernard Allison, Magic Slim, and Big Bill Morganfield. As bassist and writer for the band MbdG, Gary represented KC at the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN and walked off the Orpheum Theater stage with a second place finish, besting all but one of 120 worldwide bands. The ensuing CD was subsequently nominated for two major industry awards. But enough singin’ the blues...he now grinds-out the foundation of the Teacher’z sound. A British music-critic once coined the phrase “weapons- grade bass lines” to describe Gary’s style...and that’s the powerful low-end you can expect from this player night after night with Teacher’z Pet!
