Brent Blount is a member of the Metis Nation of the United States, and has been a part of the Oklahoma jazz and blues community since 1986. He plays sax, clarinet, guitar, and Native American flute. Consequently, Doug Hill of Pop Magazine describes the experience of hearing him play as "Falling into a slow grove, he found intonations that escalated from the icy depths into bright crisp sunshine. Staccato stutter-steps danced off into brass oblivion. Blount played entire long solos with eyes closed, opening at the conclusion as if waking from a sweet dream (2000)."
He began playing sax at Bianca's, a local jazz and blues club, when he was 16. He fell in love with the blues. At 19 he heard Ernie Watts on "The Fabulous Baker Boys" soundtrack in that club over the sound system. It was one of the most beautiful sounds he ever heard, besides the Native American flute. Ameritone records referred to him as an artist "who melds tradition and originality into his musical range from Bach to late John Coltrane (2004)."

“Brent, That was beautiful. I'm stunned by a couple of notes where you slide up to the next note, from what I think is a half holed position. Very subtle, and very unusual. I didn't think anybody could do something with this instrument that I hadn't heard before. You just did. Thanks.

“Few people travel through this life, and find their true artistic calling, ..at all. Fewer still, find and nurture that calling from youth. This artist is one of those few, and the expression of his art is oh so smooth.”

“Q: What are your musical roots?
A: They’re an odd mixture. I started playing saxophone at age 8, when I lived for four years in Wichita, and the first song I learned was "Mary Had a Little Lamb.” The director said I jazzed it up too much and needed to slow down.”
