Sofia Talvik is the next rising star from Sweden. She has emerged like a lady of the forest, bringing a new interesting side to folk music. Where other artists surrender to the mainstream, Sofia makes her own paths through the musical underbrush of today.
Her soft and airy music has been recognized by music lovers and critics all over the world, allowing her tour the US several times. In 2008, she became the first Swedish female singer to play the Lollapalooza festival.
She's now back in Europe after having done and extensive tour throughout the whole of the USA. She played her way through 37 states and did over 250 shows on the 16 month long tour. She officially showcased at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, TN, and SxSW in Austin, TX 2012. She is now touring in Germany for the fall and winter months.
Her 5th full length album "The Owls Are Not What They Seem" was released in January 2012 to much critical acclaim and in October 2013 her live album "Drivin' & Dreaming LIVE" was released.
The Owls Are Not What They Seem - 2012
"Listening to her music, an otherworldly edge, surprising twists and powerful, haunting vocals make her much more than just another pretty folk-pop-acoustic performer." - Atlanta retro
“This album is exceptional” - Alright I’m Wrong
“Talvik’s gentle acoustic songs make up for any loss of sonic power and rhythmic force with a focus on the sweetly nuanced basics: endearing melodies and tasteful arrangements” - Direct Current Music blog
“Of all the voices – and man, they seem to issue them at birth to Swedish women – Talvik has the most faith in hers in an “I don’t need a theatrical gimmick” kind of way.”
Michael Bertin - Austin Chronicle
"Talvik, proving that Sweden is currently a gigantic alt-folk farm, plays gorgeously surreal, guitar-led dream-folk that simply must be heard. She’s a psyched-out, more inventive Marissa Nadler with the ethereal tones of Tasseomancy and Serafina Steer – an artist unafraid to experiment but who nevertheless retains a country soul. "
Theresa Heath - For Folk's Sake
“Not only is she a great singer, she fingerpicks her acoustic flawlessly, reminiscent of the steady subtle perfection of Nick Drake’s Pink Moon.”
Dan Mulrooney - RVA Magazine
“Listening to her music, an otherworldly edge, surprising twists and powerful, haunting vocals make her much more than just another pretty folk-pop-acoustic performer.”
“The Norse goddess played here at the Bama theatre last week and totally wowed the crowd. Definately a do not miss. Some traditional folk, infused with her Swedish musical heritage. Haunting, great songwriting, and unique melodies! About 100 people and Nobody got up for the bathroom, or a beer during her show. I heard people talking about how amazed they were again last night, a week later. Check her out if possible.””
Steven McJagger - Fan quote
"Sofia Talvik was absolutely mesmerizing - her voice, songs, guitar playing and rapport with the audience all fit together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that created the perfect house concert."
IndyWest House Concerts - IndyWest House Concerts
"Sofia totally shined as an artist while beautifully expressing the Swedish language and poetic floetry to the audience."
Tanya Vega - SoutSide of the Town
“It is a thing of spectral acoustic beauty, and this Monday night performance is highly recommended by us jaded fools here at Connect.”
Bill DeYoung - Connect Savannah
“I have hosted thousands of shows and performers. I must admit the show that Sofia performed at the club last month was one of the most memorable and enjoyable shows we have ever done. Her melodious voice, angelic tone and elegant but relaxed phrasing combined with great guitar playing and amazing songwriting made her show a top hit with our fans and staff.”
Randy Singer - Van Dyke Café
"Sofia Talvik, brings bubbly blonde ambition to this raw and often quiet genre with a captivating breath of fresh air."
Kathryn O - Ourstage
"It's a voice that sounds as desolately soulful as Joni Mitchell did in her glory days."
"It’s not often that an album takes your breath away, and I hate to sound hyperbolic, but “Florida” actually has several “Oh my god!” moments of sheer beauty."
Peter Swenson - CDbaby
“Fresh from a powerful performance at 2008’s Lollapalooza festival, Sweden’s Sofia Talvik is now poised to conquer the States with the release of her devastatingly beautiful third album. It’s a record of staggering elegance, with the faintest trace of Scandinavian twee and youthful exuberance.”
Chrisr - CDbaby
““Her crystalline vocals soar above arrangements as the album develops into its full splendor. (…) Jonestown demonstrates a significant artist development and an excellent launch point for the next phase of Sofia’s career.””
““Although she is Swedish, Sofia Talvik’s understanding of the English language and her ability to craft sensitive, emotive verses in English...”
