Daniel Whittington has a sound that covers a lot of territory. He spent years playing drums with various blues and Texas rock bands in the area surrounding Austin, TX, and he spent the better part of 6 years on the road touring across the entire US, Canada, and parts of England with his band, that was signed to UK based record label.
In 2005 helped to found the rock band, Rhodes (based out of SLO). The last Rhodes album, Half a Mind To Stay, was released in 2007 to critical acclaim, and even garnered them an opening slot with Aerosmith in the summer of 2007.
In 2009 he moved back to Texas to begin pursuing the sounds of his musical roots. Digging into the bands and music he had grown up around he began writing more Americana and Texas roots style songs. That work resulted two albums that were released in 2010.
His newest release, Private Wars, came out on March 2, 2012, and the songs are a direct link to the Texas roots music he has always loved. The album has included several other great musicians like Matt Rollings (Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, and more), Emily Gimble (of The Gimble's, Warren Hood, Marshall Ford Swing Band, and more) John Beland (Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Cash, Flying Burrito Brothers, Dolly Parton and more) as well as many other musicians from all over the US.
2012 will be spent touring to support the release of that album, as well as introducing people to a new direction that takes Daniel back down the road to his own musical roots.
“Private Wars is a quiet album, a rumination on relationships, whether broken, mending, fulfilling, or failing, set to pedal-steel and acoustic guitar. While the album goes down well anywhere (like the focus of “Talulah”), if you’re ever driving through Texas for more than an hour, this is the album you should play. The rolling hills of central Texas, the red dirt and far-reaching vistas of west Texas, the endless roads throughout the state—this is what you’ll be visualizing anyway if you’re listening to Private Wars.
The lineup of artists who sing and play on the album is impressive: Jaimee Harris, Brian Douglas Phillips, Emily Gimble, Dick Gimble, and John Beland, to name but a few. These are notable names and rising stars in Texas roots rock.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this album, whether at his BandCamp page, on Amazon, or on iTunes.”

“Things Change is a terrific collection of singer-songwriter tunes, immediately accessible, hooky, and worthy of repeat listening. Not only are Whittington’s songs infectious, but he’s got a rich, compelling voice you just want to keep hearing, like a comfortable pair of shoes or a T-shirt worn to perfection.”
