Biography:

The Horns Go to Eleven

Doppler Shift fuses the uptempo art of live drumNbass with pounding rock, danceable funk grooves and a jazz sensibility. Many bands claim originality, but Doppler Shift puts their money where its mouth is. Take a listen to "Resistor", "Rule No. 8", and a smoking cover of Dave Brubeck’s "Blue Rondo a la Turk" from their latest release “Resistor.”

Think Squarepusher meets The Ken Vandermark 5 on the rocks
with a twist of Miles Davis. The quartet is comprised of Brian Niebuhr (electric trumpet), Ray Pandocchi (tenor sax), Jon Marchese (lowend) and Dave Z Marsalek (traps). Since forming in Spring 2004, Doppler Shift has been busy producing two critically acclaimed full length albums, Physics [2005], Resistor [IZM Records, 2008], promoting and playing all over Chicago (Martyrs, Reggie’s, Beat Kitchen, Darkroom, Subterranean), and touring the Midwest.

Celebrating the release of “Resistor” on IZM Records in June
2008, Doppler Shift takes aim at the larger picture: regional touring, festivals, and working to become one of the most recognized motley brews to spring from the eclectic Chicago underground.

Press:

"With just enough rock aggression and rhythmic raucousness to appeal to this generally jazz-averse rockist, this Chicago quartet explores the intersection of jazz, funk, rock and experimental music at their most extreme."
Jim DeRogatis - Chicago Sun Times

"Doppler Shift struts 'n' slams heavy funk...the sax-trumpet combination cry madly alluring melodies...'Physics' is one hell of a romp, the aural equivalent of a triple cappucino on ice on an 85 degree day."
