Biography:

Sacre Noir are a Scottish based three piece, centred around vocalist / producer Carrie Beattie. Initially conceived as a solo project, Sacre Noir released a trilogy of EPs before bringing in the talents of Phil Lock on guitar and Alexis Beattie on electronic drums to perform live and record the debut LP 'Her Volatile Condition.' After performing shows around Europe in 2011 the band launched their sophomore LP 'Sinking Into Darkness' and debut single / video 'She Can't Take It' in the summer of 2012.
"moody blues that sounds like it's been filtered through transistors, capacitors and other gadgetry"
From 2012 to 2014 Sacre Noir released two more singles from the Sinking Into Darkness LP - 'Rue Crimée' and 'It's Too Late Now' alongside more live shows across Europe. 2015 saw the release of new single / video 'Listen To Me' - the video being created in collaboration with film-maker MeltedBeetle. In 2016 Sacre Noir will release their third and final album titled 'Nothing Falls Apart' on Savage Recordings. The LP will be accompanied by two further singles / videos from the release - 'A Rhythm Between Work and Sleep' and 'Rebels and Loners.' This year also includes an EP release from Sacre Noir featuring four tracks written in collaboration with Canadian singer-songwriter D.Soul the Soulsamurai entitled 'Scattershot.' As a vocalist Carrie has also collaborated under the Sacre Noir moniker with various notable producers - recent features have included work with various hip-hop artists currently working in Scotland including MOG and UVBeatz (both Powercut Productions), Conscious Route (True Hold Records) and MC duo Werd & Deeko (Sons of Scotland).

Press:

“Demo Recordings – EP Review “As soon as this CD begins, it strikes me how much the 'atmospherics' are like those found on most Joy Division recordings.””
The Mag

“Demo Recordings II – EP Review “Atmospheric to the point of becoming a soundtrack rather than a collection of songs, it was a strangely compelling listen in a sort of Ryuichi Sakamoto meets Dracula and the Cocteau Twins on a dark road to nowhere kind of way””
Bluesbunny Blog

“Her Volatile Condition - LP Review “deep bass sounds, haunting piano chords and flickering snares and hi hats make for a solid sound that can send a shiver down your spine and a thought to your brain.””

“She Can’t Take It – Single / Video Review “Sometimes you have to go back to black, and there are few as black as Sacre Noir.””

“She Can’t Take It – Single / Video Review “The new single from Sacre Noir is moody blues that sounds like it’s been filtered through transistors, capacitors and other gadgetry.””

“She Can’t Take It – Single / Video Review “She Can’t Take It sees Sacre Noir in full mastery of their esoteric night circus, with pulsing clockwork rhythms and sequenced beats summoning Beattie’s ghostly and emotive vocals””
Edinburgh Spotlight

“Rue Crimée – Single / Video Review “on first listen Sacre Noir’s twitchy effects and judicious cowbell sounds not unlike a Scottish Depeche Mode””
Rave Child Blog

“Rue Crimée – Single / Video Review “another hypnotic slice of trance-infused electronic alchemy; a secret mixture of menacing rhythms, ominous guitar and disembodied, ghostly vocals””

“It’s Too Late Now – Single / Video Review “as unsettling as you would wish for… but don't have nightmares:””

“Sinking Into Darkness – LP review “it’s a smart and encouraging record which toys with ethereal soundscapes, industrial tones that could easily capture the imagination of anyone who has that touch of darkness in them.””

“Live Review “Sacre Noir took the gig to another mood level entirely, in a good way of course… with their sweeping melodies & moody dark-edged vibes. This gig get's all thumbs up from me (I have three), 10 out of 10 all the way.””

"Sacre Noir is more of a mini album from a one-woman band who aside from some quite dramatic vocals - similar in tone to Polly Harvey at times, but often so understated it's hard to fix on. The sound initially seems lo-fi and muffled but further listening hints at some complex layersmith some fairly straightforward acoustic guitar tunes embelished with multi-tracked ambient sounds. 'Control' is closest to pop while 'Never Before' is quite scary, Eartha Kitt trapped in a mineshaft with the Jesus and Mary Chain."

“Demo Recordings III "A surprisingly high-quality demo from gothic electronica artist Sacre Noir shows that there's more to modern music than Jam rip-offs and tatty Converse. Mixing soaring vocals with some suitably atmospheric beats, it sounds much like Faithless might have done if they'd grown up as rabid Sisters Of Mercy fans." - ITM?”

“Her Volatile Condition "It’s as though Goldfrapp have gone all French and expressed some true emotion from the world, rather than their own hearts. This is the widescreen, French aural cinema." ITM? ”
