Funkalister is a instrumental group formed in 2002. Black music isthe main influence of the group is, mostly of the funk’s “golden era” of the 70’s, plus rock, a bit of jazz and the swing of samba rhythms.

The group has a typical sound that can take you back to the 60’s and 70’s easily. The amazing horn section of sax, trombone, trumpet and flute are strongly anchored by the fundamental groove of bass and drums mixed with electronic and analogic keyboards ,such as synthetizers, electric pianos and clavinet.

From the endless source of the musical universe, some well-known names should be not forgotten as big influences of the vintage sound of Funkalister: Eumir Deodato, Banda Black Rio, Robson Jorge e Lincoln Olivetti, João Donato, Parliament-Funkadelic, James Brown e Stevie Wonder, just to name a few.

As time goes by, during the year of 2006 the band got bigger, and a strong unity of great musicians got togheter to record the first CD, simply called Volume 1. After some time playing, composing and hard work, the group was sharping the edges and maturing the creative process of making groovy songs. Between 2007 and 2008 the group went back to the studio and with a little help of others fellow musicians recorded the Volume 2. The second record was released in october of 2008 and more people started to follow the band at the ultra-high energy gigs they performed. A lot of songs composed by the group were used as soundtracks for movies, radio shows and, of course, black music dj’s love to play the cool music of Funkalister on various parties and events.

Until 2010, the group,( that was mainly concentrated on studio work and recordings), began to play out more often, captivating a crescent number of die-hard fans. Some highlights of this great year for the group are: The performance at Brasil Rural Contemporâneo Music Festival, sharing the stage with famous artists in Brasil, such as Gilberto Gil, Monobloco, Nei Lisboa, Frank Jorge, among others. The first gig of the group in a theather (Teatro Renascença, in the city of Porto Alegre with the special presence of the famous singer and guitar player Luís Vagner). The first gig of the band in the city of São Paulo, (SESC Vila Mariana), and the participation at the Circuito Bohemia de Música Instrumental, performing two incredible shows.

In 2011 the group is at its full power, playing gigs, spreading out its infectious grooves on very well composed instrumental songs, trying to play at “as many places as possible” and also preparing the production and release of their third studio álbum, Volume 3.
