Biography:

If classic rock had a love child with a singer-songwriter, you would expect the result to be strange, disturbing even. Somehow, when you listen to Diamond Dust’s debut album, the lines get blurred and what seem to be two completely opposite genres collide and melt into something that is actually quite extraordinary.

Opposites do attract and this is exactly how this story is told; A sweet-voiced singer-songwriter simply named Jo, meets a free-spirited rock n’ roll guitar player, nick-named, Riffer and through the push and pull action they come up with something very magical. The difference in musical opinions has finally settled somewhere near the middle to create Diamond Dust, the band’s first self-titled album.

So Diamond Dust isn’t your typical rock band, nor is it a cookie cutter country, folk or even pop band. The dilemma led the band to consider its very existence from inception. Where can you go if you don’t really fit in anywhere completely, but sorta fit everywhere at the same time? One producer calls it Led Zeppelin meets Sarah McLachlan, others compare them to Edie Brickell, Sheryl Crow or even Jewel but with some “humf”. So the solution? Go everywhere, because you sorta fit in there!

At first glance, Diamond Dust might appear and feel a little retro. Their absolute love for the 60’s and 70’s music is blatantly apparent, and in their opinion, they don’t make music like that anymore and it’s a crying shame. So in the spirit of "real music", all throughout the process of recording their debut album, they used only actual physical instruments with vintage gear to record them. They also categorically refused to have any sort of loops or modern trickery done to their songs. They even went as far as renting a vintage tape machine and buying the required tape rolls to run the entire record through tape to give it an added warmth and vintage feel.

The band has been on tour across North America since the release of their debut album in June 2011.

Diamond Dust's self-titled debut album has made a triumphant entry on the underground music scene being called "A very impressive debut" that "reminds on of peak period Led Zeppelin". The Independent Florida Alligator calls it "reminiscent of classic rock (...) with grooving bass and catchy riffs". New Slang calls it "gritty rock that seems to ooze out the very soul of that famously defining era of revolution, love and peace". The Plainsman Press writes to be: "stunned by this unique voice" and that "With the great combination of vocals and guitar (Diamond Dust) seem to have found the perfect match".

Diamond Dust is currently touring North America and started recording their second album in the Summer of 2012.

“Love the music! DIAMOND DUST is going straight on the air Worldwide! ”
Jay Warsinske, Founder & CEO of industry leader Indiepower.com - Indie Power Hour Radio Show

“(...) a self-titled debut album that is a true homage to a time past and a rock sound that in this modern age has been nearly pushed aside in favor of the next big thing(...) Alongside guitarist Craig Hare's proficient playing is singer Josée-Anne St-Onge whose engaging vocals ride the line between no nonsense strong and syrupy sweet (...) The band's ability to jump all over the map and adapt to genre specifics is surely the sign of a skilled set of musicians and songwriters. When one psychedelic rocker ends, a folk stomper jumps in and kicks dust in the eyes only to make way for the soothing balm of a pretty ballad to follow up. With a well rounded edge that is every bit as modern sounding as it is a nod to the 60's and 70's hippy rock jam, Diamond Dust sound like a band just as comfortable banging out a few tunes around a campfire as they would in front of a large audience. Definitely an accomplished first effort.”
Nathan Pike - Music Critic for Discorder Magazine and The Filter

“Talented women are taking the frontman position for bands more and more lately, and it is leading to great results. Diamond Dust is the prime example of that. (...) On the first track "Summertime," St-Onge’s voice instantly takes you by surprise, as it is something that isn't heard very often. As she starts singing the opening lyrics (...) her voice demands attention. By the time the song is half-way over, you are still stunned by this unique voice. The same can be said about "Down the Coast," but this time it is Hare's guitar work that takes center stage. (...) As he plays, he's switching the overall sound of the song (...) "Clair de Lune" is also an incredible track from the album.(...) One of the best lines from the album comes from this song (...) With the great combination of vocals and guitar, St-Onge and Hare seem to have found the perfect match that is already getting noticed. I recommend (the album) to everyone. It's a great album altogether that shouldn't be missed.”
Jayme Wheeler, Entertainment Editor - The Plainsman Press

Sarah Nicole Vaughn - Facebook Post

"(...) it’s kind of like a cup of coffee for your ears (...) Their debut album definitely takes you back to the psychedelic rock of the ’60s and ’70s, and it’s just the kind of music that makes a girl like me want to be at Woodstock in 1969, dancing around barefoot in a sundress with flowers in her hair. Jo’s smoky voice reincarnates gypsy-crooners like Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin, but with a modern take, more like the party-rock style of Sheryl Crow circa “All I Wanna Do.” It seems like Craig “Riffer” Hare must listen to a lot of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. He plays an aggressive and gritty rock that seems to ooze out the very soul of that famously defining era of revolution, love and peace."
Sarah Nicole Vaughn - New Slang

“A little country-ish but heavy blues. Really good...Sheryl Crow voice and the music jams.”
Cordova - The Vibe ~ Riverside, CA

“French Canadian, music preserving, modern day shamans.”
Josh Comeaux - Awesome Keys Man

"Diamond Dust is a band that can't be categorized. Songs from its self-titled debut album weave in and out of folk ("Down the Coast") and pure rock ‘n' roll ("Push It"). "Summertime," the band's first single, starts with quaint talk. "Get Along" is another foot-tapping song. St-Onge's voice gets progressively stronger, complemented by the crescendo of country guitar. Tracks "Rock and Roll" and "Bring Me Down" are reminiscent of classic rock. Their grooving bass and catchy riffs show off the band's vigor."
Nicole La Hoz - U. of Florida's "The Independent Florida Alligator"

“Diamond Dust is quite phenomenal!”
Shane Caraway of the band Caraway - Twitter post - Jan 11, 12

"Very cool music..very cool people. Definitely a "don't miss" show. Played with them in Jacksonville. Don't miss them! Make sure you buy their C.D. as well...worth every penny."
Josh Salestrom - Pilotwave

“Great album....new and refreshing yet still has that familiar rock n roll feel.”
Hammy4416 - iTunes Music Customer Review

“Jo St-Onge and Craig "Riffer" Hare, a.k.a. Diamond Dust, remind one of peak period Led Zeppelin in their ability to dish out both blistering, full-bore rock, and lively, foot-stomping folk. More importantly, the songs are strong enough to keep fans of either style of music consistently - and highly - engaged. A very impressive debut.”
Mark Rheaume - CBC Radio's National Music Director

“This has been one of the most fulfilling interviews as of late. I have been heavily down on how the music world is going to sh*t whenever I turn on the radio. Jo and Riffer REALLY reminded me how dumb that was. Two people intertwined in a world of an ever-changing sound but the beat—-the purpose, has remained the same. I really feel something special for Diamond Dust. I feel something for the same love of real music that the performers of Woodstock ‘69 and that romantic era share with this group. This band took the sound back to a place where all music— rock, soul, country, hip hop started… The need for love. I encourage everyone regardless of music taste, creed, color, preference to feel that love again. Peace, Love, and Rock & Roll… -Bi.”
Bianca Brooks - The Bittersweet Beat

“Very good quality stuff here! Excellent production! there is true talent here that deserves to get noticed (...) I wanna check these guys out live!”
