Lenya Wilks......biography
Lenya Wilks, [born Lenya Lisa Wilks, May 24, 1990, Ewarton, St. Catherine, Jamaica] is a recording artist known for her soulful and powerful vocals when delivering any of the different genres of music [Reggae, R&B, Pop, Alternative] she covers. 

 She was influenced at the early age of four by American superstar Whitney Houston whom she idolized.

2002 Wilks got started in music in her first year of attending Charlemont High School in St. Catherine, when she was selected to lead the school’s senior choir, which she led for the full five years she spent in high school. During the five years of leading the choir her school won more than twenty gold medals each year in various music competitions across Jamaica; a feat that has never been accomplished in the school’s history. During her high school years [2002-2007] her personal medal achievements were - twenty-one gold medals and three trophies.

2007 at age seventeen Wilks entered the Digicel Rising Stars competition [Jamaica], her early [fourth place] departure from the competition prompted a wave of discussions, which led to several articles being written on the subject, [Observer] [The Star]. On the very night Wilks dropped out of the competition she was invited to join the Harmony House Productions’ camp to open shows for Reggae icon Beres Hammond [Gleaner].

2008-2010 Wilks toured with Beres Hammond as an opening act, performing at many different venues across the USA, Europe, Canada & the Caribbean. Her last tour of the USA covered thirty-three states. In mid 2008, at age eighteen, Wilks teamed up with record producer Shane Brown to record her first single ‘Fly’, which was released on the Spring Sampler compilation album for the Greensleves record label. The song was also included on the Tommy Bahama spring 2010 compilation album. Wilks started recording with Zx5 Productions late 2010 and released her first single ‘I Hate Love’ on the label; a R&B track written by Sam Berley and produced by Handel Tucker. Wilks next track on the Zx5 label was a pop song titled ‘Stalker’ also produced by Handel Tucker. Sizzla Kalonji recorded a song titled ‘Crazy Over You’ on Wilks’ rhythm for her song ‘Stalker’.

2011 Wilks officially launched her solo career under the management of songwriter Sam Berley wherein she signed with Zx5 Productions a record label owned by Sam Berley and started work on her debut album. She released four singles [Baby Come To Me, Friends With Benefits, Dis Love Affair, Yeh Man Jamaica] in 2011. Her R&B single ‘I Hate Love’ was included on Tads International Records Vol. III hit list compilation album, which was released in the USA and UK.

2012 she scored two number one hits, the first with her original reggae track ‘Baby Come To Me’ [produced by Sam Berley] which spent 18 weeks on the Jamaica Music Countdown Top25 reggae Singles Charts and the up-tempo reggae fusion; ‘Yeh Man Jamaica’ which was produced by renown saxophonist/producer Dean Fraser and recorded in celebration of Jamaica’s 50th independence anniversary celebration. Her song R&B song; ‘I hate love’ entered the Indie Top Songs Chart in the #2 position and remained on the chart for several weeks.

2013 her self-titled debut album was released worldwide including on iTunes and has received rave reviews [EmbraceYou Magazine] from many music critics. The fifteen-track self-titled album [all originals] carries a mixture of reggae, R&B, pop and alternative songs. The album has one collaboration with reggae superstar Tarrus Riley a lover’s rock song titled ‘Old Time Love’. Wilks’ debut album is listed on ALLMUSIC.
