Formed in 1997, skin contact grew out of founder Kevin Breidenbach's interest in both electronic music & computers. Early works were influenced heavily by the EBM & industrial dance music of the 90's, as well as other forms of electronic music. Over time, the sound of SC has evolved to include elements of IDM, drum & bass, noise, and rhythmic industrial music to form a unique blend of dark electronics. Recent releases have been well-received by the underground press, being described as “meticulously sculpted”, “expertly engineered”, and “intelligent”.
“...this is a solid release that seems aimed at the type of people who have Orbital and Future Sound of London albums sitting alongside Coil and Skinny Puppy on their CD shelves.”
Matthew Johnson on Pleasure, Pain, and Distraction - Grave Concerns
“Skin Contact seems to be [a] band that bids on aggressive, intense sound...however, instead of straight beats in many cases, there’s a special rhythmic ornament, floating, mixed with other sounds in the way that you cannot clearly indentify it until you absolutely want to...”
Elena (ZG) on Antitrust - Heathen Harvest
“Simply complex, or complexity disguised as simplicity?”
Ivan K. on Antitrust - Connexion Bizarre
“The melodies, beats, and samples are added to each other in a very clever manner, one which enables the rhythm to remain intact while the elements blend together in a sensual and evocative way, yielding unexpected harmonies.”
Romain Bonilla on Pleasure, Pain, and Distraction - Heathen Harvest
“I really enjoyed track 7 (Antitrust), with millions of sounds calling to one another and enveloping the listener with atmosphere of mystery and suspicion, especially with the help of anxious, strained, high key intonation in the middle of the track”
Elena (ZG) on Antitrust - Heathen Harvest
“As I'm in some need of expanding my musical horizons, "Antitrust" does it for me.”
Ivan K. on Antitrust - Connexion Bizarre
“possesses a well-developed sense of rhythm and has infused each song with some catchy melodic hooks, backed by a strong stock of bass-lines... this has helped to mark it out and elevate it into the strata of the extremely listenable.”
S:M:J63 on The Fine Line - Heathen Harvest
“This release is exceptionally well thought out. Each sound seems to have been intentionally calculated for its purpose... Each melody, in turn, features intelligent effects and hooks to entertain the listener.”
Romain Bonilla on Pleasure, Pain, and Distraction - Heathen Harvest
“Pleasure, Pain and Distraction refuses to be ignored and manages to deliver some intriguing highlights. It will appeal to fans of many electronic genres, but will also be appreciated by those with a taste for the experimental who disdain the imaginary restrictions of genre borderlines.”
Dillon Carlyon - ReGen Mag
