Biography:

George Evans is a well-known Canadian jazz vocalist and entertainer. A dual citizen of the US and Canada, he appears with regularity on both sides of the border. George has released 8 projects under his own name, and all but one on his own M-Swing Music label. Since 1997 he has enjoyed the support of the CBC and other national outlets, performing both live in concert and in studio, both on radio and television. A background in music, theatre, broadcasting and journalism makes George a multi-disciplinary artist. His passion for vocal music has driven him to become a recognized archivist, with major label credits in A&R.

ABOUT GEORGE EVANS

Recognized as one of the foremost vocal interpreters of jazz and standards on the Canadian scene, George Evans has been celebrated as "An agile voice and always swinging” (National Post) and “a ballad’s best friend” (All-Canadian Jazz Festival). He has been praised for lively, polished performances in cities such as New York, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo and Shanghai. Since 1997 George has released a total of eight CDs as a leader, including an album recorded LIVE at the Cellar in Vancouver, and a ballad collection.

A three time National Jazz Awards Canada nominee as “Vocalist of the Year,” George has twice been nominated for a MAC Award, and was nominated Ontario Independent Music Awards “Jazz Artist of the Year.” Since 2009, he has sung nightly on ships for Holland America Line, Cunard, and Princess Cruises. In 2015 he was a featured character on the 4-part documentary “The Cruise Ship” on ITV in the UK, in which he sang, danced with the ladies, and helped launch the new flagship in the Princess fleet.

Press:

“An agile voice, and always swinging.”
Robert Cushman - The National Post

“Evans' confident way with a song and his effortless ability to swing brings to mind the days when male vocalists ruled the airwaves.”
Lawrence Williams - Jazz Review

“Developing his own distinctive approach, Evans' singing is lyrical and smoothly swinging and he interprets the great standards with eloquence and skill.”
Encyclopedia of Popular Music

“George Evans [is] innately musical, totally comfortable and in control. His warm lively manner and mellow voice would have had our rapt attention even if he hadn't sung a note. But sing he did, and what a pleasure it was.”
Murray Charters - Brantford Expositor

“Relaxed and always highly musical, Evans reveals very good taste... The singers' voice has an attractive edginess that is very appealing.”
Bruce Crowther - Jazz Journal International
