Members of an already established Chicago band, the future members of Outgrowth had been discussing the idea of tying to find a way to better express our musical ideas.

It was during this time that Outgrowth was unconsciously formed. After other members of the band left rehearsals, Joe and Raphael stayed behind to continue to write new material. The music they were writing was clearly different then what they had been currently playing.
