"Wow - that was a great concert! Needfire maintains its Celtic flavor in every song they play. The rock influence is clear and strong, but it never overpowers the Celtic. The energy was terrific. I hope they'll be back again soon."

Q: What is the tuneset in "9 Minutes of Woo?" I hear Morrison's to start and end but can't identify the middle tunes

A: "9 Minutes of Woo" is a medley of 4 fiddle tunes consisting of both traditional Irish and original tunes. 1. Morrison's Jig 2. Drowsy Maggie (traditional A-section, but newly written B-section) 3. Unnamed original tune 4. Musical Priest (with an additional section added) 5. Morrison's Jig ends the medley It's interesting how this medley came together. The ideas started sometime in 2005 when the current fiddle player was still just beginning to learn Celtic fiddle. I had given him sheet music of traditional fiddle tunes and he learned several of them. One of my favorites was Musical Priest which was a tune I brought and jammed with the guitar player and we came up with an arrangement on that. The fiddle player also was writing original melodies for bagpipes at the time. The unnamed tune in this tune set was originally written for bagpipes and first played for us in late 2005. In March 2006 we had a long pub gig and needed extra material to play to fill up time. We had all these short pieces of music, so we decided to find a way to put several of them in a medley. Throughout 2006 it was performed as a 3-piece "unplugged" tune set with just fiddle, acoustic guitar, and bass. For something that was put together just to fill up time it surprisingly received a positive reaction from the audience. In 2007 drums were added by Gabriel Martinez and it became one of the shows highlights and that's when it finally got a name- "9 Minutes of Woo." Ed Walewski Needfire
