About
Deborah is a singer-songwriter and an aspiring film-composer who is currently studying at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
As a Masters student in the department of 'Southeast Asian Studies', she is currently writing her Master's Thesis on Thai film-music and how it 'Occidentalizes' the West.
She has played her original songs (over 15 now) in various venues like the 'Art-House' 'Library@Esplanade', the monthly open-mike at Emily-hill and even Koerner's pub in UBC, Vancouver! (they provide free beer for open-mikers there)
A jingle she wrote,'She Takes the Bus'(on environmental conservation) was the first runner-up for the National Environmental Agency jingle writing competition in 2008.
Another one of her compositions,'The Flying Man of Pocklington', written for a Chamber Music Ensemble was played by Members of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in an mini concert in Seattle, March of 2009. Apart from 'Western'-type music, she has been learning how to play traditional Thai music as a recent member of the Thai Classical Music Ensemble in NUS. And realizes that traditional Thai music is alot like Jazz... another one of her great loves.
Deborah has a yearly tradition of recording her own version of Christimas songs and sending them out to friends.. these have included 'Have yourself a merry Christmas', 'Chestnuts' and 'Let it Glow' (Tropical version of 'Let it Snow') do join her mailing list or send her your email if you would like to receive this yearly installation of Deb's X'mas Songs!
