About
Mary Hannah Riggins is a singer / guitarist / songwriter from South Georgia. She began writing songs at the age of 15, shortly after she was picking up her mom's guitar. Since then she has matured into a skilled musician who has performed in various venues ranging from large music festivals to more intimate coffee shops.
In high school, she studied guitar and composition under the instruction of Chris Mitchell for two years. In the summer of 2006, they produced her first album, "Damsel in Distress-a-lot" under Mitchell's new label, Pladd Dot Records. The album was released in October of 2006 and is available for purchase at www.maryhannahmusic.com.
She is currently enrolled at LaGrange College as a Creative Music Technologies major with two music scholarships. Now as a senior, she has studied voice under award winning Metropolitan Opera singer, Patricia Callaway. She has also studied jazz guitar under Trey Wright, classical guitar under Phil Snyder, and composition under Lee Johnson, the founder of LaGrange's Music Technology department.
Mary Hannah's clever writing style and unique vocals give the listener something new to connect with. Her musical influences come from Jewel Kilcher, Bob Dylan, Alanis Morissette, Radiohead, and Ani DiFranco. Though she was first introduced to country music, she grew an even greater love for her parents' record collection of folk and rock n' roll. Since then, she has grown an appreciation for all styles of music, writing in whichever genre comes naturally. She puts the lyrics before anything else. That is what she finds most important.
