Mary Griffin

Mary Griffin is an urban R&B singer who released her debut album, For the First Time, in 1997. Griffin was born in New Orleans, the daughter of a local minister.The journey began at the age of three. Begging he mother to let her sing up on the pulpit where her Daddy preached, until she gave in. Mary always knew this was what she was born to do with her life. Griffin grew up singing in the church. Mary and her sisters we’re the choir. They sang gospel hymns to the congregation each week.
When it was time for college, Griffin received a full scholarship in music to Grambling State University. “Grambling is where I learned the skills to fine tune my voice, and singing opera gave me a new respect for music and its power”.
After college, Griffin began singing in New Orleans where she became a local celebrity. “I definitely paid my dues in
New Orleans. I sang all the time, and that is where I was discovered.” Griffin was signed to her first record deal after another artist on the label, Curb Records, heard her singing. Griffin has had the opportunity to work on several soundtracks along the way including Family Tree, Studio 54 ( in which she also appeared), Coyote Ugly, Drivin , and Ballistics: Ecks vs Server. “I enjoyed working on soundtracks; they have given me a chance to get my music out there”.
The debut album “Purified” was released in November 2002. “I was able to work with a wonderful team of creative
songwriters and producers”. Griffin’s album is filled with powerhouse ballads and mid tempo grooves. Billboard Magazine wrote, “Griffin is a true ingénue.”

That is where Jaheim (with double platinum R&B hits “Just In Case” and “Anytime” and tied for “Best Male R&B” singer at the BET awards) met Mary on tour and recreated her image and sound. Now she is touring as Mahogany.
And let’s not forget about the great club mixes with her hits “We Can Get There”, “Perfect Moment”, and “Without
You”. You’re sure to find the perfect dance hits from the great mixes of the Eurodance sound “Almighty” or the New York house mix of “Johnny Vicious”. Mary Griffin is back in New Orleans working on another album (with a smooth R&B sound and a twist of grooving jazz) to be released later in 2005. Her single “Take A Look At Me Now” has already hit the DJ Charts in the United Kindom.
