Q: How is born your love for music? Does It come from your parents? How did you choose to play guitar and banjo?
A: Eric, I have always been singing my way through my day. It is just what I do. I had the option of taking piano lessons like everyone else in my family, but I begged for a guitar. Finally at age 12 I received one and immediately started playing folk songs like "Tom Dooley", "You Are My Sunshine", " Amazing Grace", John Denver music. The Glen Campbell show was on and I thought he was " the cat's meow". John Hartford played banjo for him and I pictured myself on the stage with them at an early age. No one gave that vision. It was a personal one. I fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and the west through the records of Michael Martin Murphey and John Denver. I knew I had to come west as soon as I could. And so, as soon as I finished sitting for my nursing board exam, I moved to Denver. The acoustic instruments are convenient for our lifestyle of weekend camping and outings of all sorts. It is a joy for me to make music. I love my Deering Sierra banjo. It was a gift from Jeff and it is all I need from a banjo.
