Attempting to achieve musical innovation through both improvisation and exploration, Lake Worth bassist Mark Braun formed a rotating ensemble called Blatant Disregard in 1995. Recruiting area drummer/percussionist Bill Meredith, with whom Braun played in the early '90s alternative rock band JasPlazma, the bassist was trying to use the improv elements that crept into the previous group's live shows - plus transfuse the spontaneous nature of jazz with the most powerful aspects of rock, as hinted at in the play on words ("jazz plasma").
In three different incarnations, Blatant Disregard appeared on the tevevised Danny Jessup Show in 1996, on the compilation CD Big Bang (available through Cryptogram Records), and as the opening act for international jazz saxophonist Warren Hill in 2002 at West Palm Beach's annual SunFest. Blatant Disregard's current lineup features Braun, Meredith and guitarist John Smotherman. Styles at any given moment range from the percussive, Woodstock-era Santana attack of Meredith; Braun's Miles Davis-influenced bass lines, and Smotherman's collage of Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Scott Henderson and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
After briefly attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mark Braun studied privately with two world class guitarists, Scott Henderson and Grammy Award nominee John Scofield (who toured for three years with the legendary “Picasso of Jazz” Miles Davis). Mark has worked with international recording artists Patti Wicks and Mark Marineau and has performed numerous times at the Bamboo Room, the Atlantic Theater, the Orange Door, SunFest, as well as various area clubs and Green Markets. While primarily a bass player, Mark plays bass, guitar, and keyboards on his solo recordings.
