Marie Gabrielle / Press

“An album oozing the old world charm of the Blues with Gabrielle's signature powerful and melodious vocals :-) I loved " All Outta Love" which has a great rhythm and lyrics to match Gabrielle's voice. "Getting Over You" has got awesome piano opening and violin solo....with its lovely plaintive sounds :-) "Restless Angel" has a wonderful slow cadence with a melancholy feel to it. Gabrielle's vocals in this song is superlative :-) "Honeybee" is a fast and chirpy number with great lyrics...I really enjoyed listening to this track. I also really liked "Waiting For A Miracle" which is wonderfully written. This is an uplifting track for sure :-) There's a lot of entertainment to be had with Gabrielle's songs. "Its Magic" , "Got My Mojo Working" and "Its Time" to name a few more tracks from this great album, are all wonderfully crafted songs. A true blue Blues album that has the essence of its genre running deep in its musical veins, this one's a keeper :-) :-)”

“Restless Angel, Marie Gabrielle's debut album is an immaculately produced and beautifully crafted collection of songs that encompasses a range of musical styles including acoustic and electric rock, ballads and blues. It features an impressive cast of backing musicians that includes the instantly recognisable piano of Dr John and the beautifully expressive violins of Antoine Silverman and Lorenza Ponce, with co-producers, Hugh McCracken on guitar plus gutsy harmonica and Rob Papparozzi - also on harmonica - both lending a hand. They join Marie on guitar, electric and acoustic, including slide and dobro. Throughout this richly textured instrumentation, Marie's distinctive warm vocals carves a solid groove, serving a welcoming slice of Americana that evokes the wide open spaces of the southern states, the highways and railroads of Texas and Louisiana, and the freight-train rhythms of freedom. This is a soul that won’t be held down, that understands how to do right and live right......”

“New York City-based Marie Gabrielle enchants on her latest release, "Restless Angel". Electric guitars scream lead lines over a big bodied acoustic that keeps the rhythm locked down tight. Wurlitzer hums over bass and drums as Gabrielle growls, snarls and belts it out in a way that would make Bessie Smith smile. Familiar blues themes abound, summed up with titles like "All Outta Love" and "Getting Over You", but Gabrielle keeps things fresh with a bluegrass fiddle here, a flugelhorn there. Standouts include the sassy "HoneyBee" ("He loves the garden when it's in full bloom, and loves to buzz around my lilies too") and the inspirational "It's Time to Live in Peace" Overall, Restless Angel is like a beer with an old friend at your neighborhood blues bar-comfortable, amiable and satisfying. “UPCOMING AMERICAN SLIDE PLAYER MARIE GABRIELLE TALKS TO AUSTRALIAN GUITAR ABOUT HER DEBUT ALBUM AND WHY SHE WANTS TO KEEP COMING BACK TO AUSTRALIA: With such notables as Dr. John and Hugh McCracken backing her, Marie Gabrielle is among good company on her most recent musical journey, Restless Angel, an album of blues grooves and strong songwriting. Australian Guitar caught up with her recently when she was in town for the CD's pre-release.”

“Those who saw New York born singer songwriter and guitarist Marie Gabrielle perform at this years Melbourne International Music Festival would have been oblivious, apart from the quality sounds coming off the stage to the incredible pedigree of her band. Who knew for instance, it contained guitar legend Hugh McCracken (Billy Joel, Steely Dan) a backing vocalist whose previous boss was Carly Simon, and a keyboard player who shares the stage with Sheryl Crow. At the time of this interview, her debut album "Restless Angel" which features Dr. John on piano hadn't even been released in Australia. Gabrielle must carry some clout for musicians of that calibre to want to be involved with this singer songwriter before anyone has had a whiff of something interesting n the air. "Restless Angel" is an honest work, a handsome mix of bluesy rhythms, country ballads and rockin roots...........”

“Marie Gabrielle is a bit of a one stop entertainment shop. She has done everything from TV acting on a series to feature films, to singing and playing slide guitar for her rapidly growing fan base. She has also recently completed an original arrangement and performance of the Robert Johnson song "Ramblin on my Mind" for a short film titled "The Daily Blues" where she shares the musicial bill with Harry Connick Jr., Johnny Lang and Buckwheat Zydeco. Gabrielle has been a busy girl.....”

“SHE is a New York girl through and through but Marie Gabrielle is honored to be taking part in Melbourne's Tsunami Benefit Concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl next weekend.......The benefit will feature The Doors, Roachford, Taj Mahal and Blondie....... Apart from her music Gabrielle is also a noted actor having appeared in numerous advertisements as well as the popular drama series Third Watch and Spin City.........”

“We first met Marie Gabrielle back in issue 47, when we spoke to the New York guitarist who has a soft spot for slide, about her highly accomplished debut album "Restless Angel", which features contributions from such notables as Hugh McCracken and session guitarist turned New Orleans piano legend, Dr. John. A staunchly independent musician, Marie has since attracted the attention of non other than B.B. King and was invited to speak on several panels recently at New York's CMJ Music Marathon industry extravaganza. Here she writes about her experiences making it in the male-dominated guitar world........”

"The opening act was Marie Gabrielle, a singer/guitarist, who provided a tasteful beginning for Mr. B.B. King".
